Eucalyptus & gold

I thought this would be my last napkin/serviette related post for now but I forgot about a pack of dinner napkins I bought in the summer. So maybe one more!?
But onto today’s cards; you can see in the photo above that the eucalyptus themed napkins are printed on a white base but my cards are all cream tones. When I adhered the single layer of the napkin to cream cardstock, the background transformed into cream not white.

The napkins are not Christmas themed themselves but I chose to add gold foliage die-cuts, gold embossed greetings and even some gold splatter on the one below to turn them into Christmassy cards. I used the Penny Black dies, ‘stocking stuffers‘ and ‘airy’.

Layered Poinsettias

I have a box of berries, leaves, pine boughs and other festive foliage along with some watercoloured panels waiting to be put to use. I cut poinsettias from the watercoloured panels and had fun arranging them on an embossed panel with other foliage die cuts. (PB ‘joy of giving‘, ‘juniper‘, ‘layered Xmas wreath‘ and stocking stuffers)

The pretty background panel is Neenah solar white embossed with the Gina K ‘holiday flora’.

I like the variety of patterns and colours in the petals and leaves when they are cut from a watercolour panel. I held a couple of Christmas card making nights for my church and we made watercolour panels using my smoosh, spritz and swipe method. We ‘smooshed’ distress inks on a teflon mat, ‘spritzed’ the ink with water to dilute and move it, then ‘swiped’ the watercolour paper through the ink as many times as needed to make a well coloured panel.

Garland Wreath

Today’s card combines stamps from Penny Black’s ‘nature’s garlands’ stamp set and die cut foliage from the PB ‘stocking stuffers’ and ‘joy of giving’ sets. I stamped the foliage stamps on white cardstock, pine in green and wispy branch in blue.

I die cut the foliage from pale blue, pale peach and burgandy cardstock and glued them over the circle of stamped foliage. The sentiment is from the PB ‘jolly snippets’ set and is popped up over the messy centre.

I feature other designs like this one in my Wreaths – Stamped & Painted online class.

Watercolour decorations

There are some delightful new Christmas themed dies from Penny Black and sneak peaks have started of more to come. I love the ‘stocking stuffers‘ die set which features the stocking, trim and various bits of foliage. I used one watercolour panel to create this stocking card and the decorated bauble below uses jumbo bauble and foliage from stocking stuffers.

As you can probably tell from the mottled look of the watercolour panel I sprinkled salt over a wet panel coloured with distress inks. When you sprinkle salt over a wet panel you can achieve different results depending on how coarse the salt is.

The trimmings for both the bauble and the stocking were cut from shimmer cardstock in silver and quartz. The stamped message on the bauble is from the PB shine God’s glory set using versafine clair paradise ink.

The card bases and embossed panels are Neenah solar white cardstock embossed with TE sheet music and Spellbinders plaid company. All the links are below.
Today’s cards are similar to the cards we will be making in my October Collage Christmas card workshops in Ottawa. Click over to the Classes page to learn more and register.

Holly Days

Today’s simple fresh card showcases some new dies from Penny Black. I chose solid colour cardstock, some shimmery, to create this little garland but I know I will use these dies again with gel prints or patterned papers.

It is a little hard to tell in the photo but I have red shimmer, quartz shimmer and silver shimmer cardstock along with matte green for the leaves. The dies are from three new PB sets, holly-days, stocking stuffers and jumbo bauble. The card design is clean and simple but I added texture to the background with a spellbinders plaid embossing folder.

I finished off the card with one of the new little sentiments from the PB ‘jolly sentiments’ set. I think I have mentioned before how much I like little sentiments so a whole new set of them is exciting.
