Script & more

Here is my card for this week’s Less is More challenge to use script on a one layer card.  I masked and then stamped the Letter Background stamp and the Lace Flower stamp from Penny Black as my background. I sponged in several colours and then stamped Resplendent from Penny Black as the feature image.

I didn’t set out to create this colour scheme, it just happened to fall together. It’s nice when it works like that.

Supplies:

Stamps: Letter Background, Resplendent, Lace Flower (Penny Black), Hugs & Wishes (SU)
Inks: Choc Chip, Crumb Cake, Not quite Navy (SU)
Cardstock: Flourishes Classic Ivory

Inspired by Simplicity

This is the third card I made when trying out my new Wildflowers set. It was inspired by this lovely card by Susan at Simplicity. I limited the colour scheme to five colours and made sure there was a common colour on each panel to tie it together. I applied markers directly onto the stamps and spritzed the stamp with water before stamping it on the white card.

It is March break in Ontario so I am hoping for a little more stamping time in the next week. So hopefully a few more cards on the blog too.

Supplies:

Stamps: Wildflowers Vol 2 (Darkroom Door), Upsy Daisy(SU)
Inks: Markers (SU)
Cardstock: MFP white

Silhouette and sun

My parents sent me a stamp set from Darkroom Door for my birthday so I played around with it on the weekend. The set is Wildflowers Vol 2 and is full of lovely silhouettes just waiting to be stamped into a scenic landscape!

I masked a panel first then sponged in greens, blue and yellow before stamping the flowers in green a couple of times, then black to finish. I planned to pop the panel up but it still needed something more so I pulled out the embroidery thread and punched a couple of indents to wrap a length of thread around a few times. I have a couple more using this set coming up over the next few days.

Thanks for dropping by.

Supplies:

Stamps: Wildflowers Vol 2 (Darkroom Door), Teeny Tiny Wishes (SU)
Inks: Summer Sun, Mellow Moss, Artichoke, Bashful Blue (SU), Versafine Onyx Black
Cardstock: MFP 100lb white
Also: Embroidery thread

Fly away with me

It is tempting to fly away somewhere warmer when snow and ice covers everything outside. The birds are returning and making themselves heard so spring might be round the corner.

This card started its life as a one layer card but a smudged sentiment just before it was completed meant that it became a two layer. I was not willing for the stamped and sponged panel to go to waste so I sliced it off the ruined card and popped it up on a new card base.

When making the scene I masked the sides first, then the moon and the top hill. Then I sponged the sky, before moving the mask down to create a snow bank. Before making the last snow bank I stamped the Winter Sky stamp from Penny Black making sure my bird flew in front of the moon. I added a final snow bank and stamped a bit more brush to finish it off.

Several people have asked me about masking fluid. You can find it in an art store with the watercolour paints. I use the Winsor and Newton brand but I think they are all similar.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the encouragement you leave me in the comments.

Supplies:

Stamps: Winter Sky (Penny Black), Birds in Vines(Flourishes)
Inks: Buckaroo Blue & Pretty in Pink (SU), Versafine Onyx Black

Before the snow disappears

I’m not sure why this card didn’t get posted around Christmas time but as we still have snow I think it is ok to post it now. It was very straight forward to make as you can probably see. I masked the top and the bottom with post-it notes and then spattered masking fluid randomly. I used a brayer to apply marina mist ink and then stamped the same little tree stamp several times.

That’s all there was to it.

Thank you everyone for your comments yesterday about my new design team position with Penny Black stamps. I am very excited to be part of the team and really appreciate your encouragement and enthusiasm to see what I will be creating. Thank you to all the new followers I have too.

Having another Penny Black Day!

Believe or not I am being featured again on the Penny Black blog today. The exciting news is that I am now a member of the Penny Black design team. I will be posting over at the PB blog regularly and you will see more PB creations here on my blog too. I am thrilled and a little nervous about joining such a talented team of designers.

Both these cards were masked first and in the case of the top one I masked within the big square so I could sponge one season colour scheme at a time. I then added water droplets and  the text before stamping the tree.

In the moonscape card I punched a circle from a post it note for my moon and placed a hill mask before sponging the sky. I used two more hill masks for snow drifts and then stamped the image in black. To create the shadow I inked the fence and stamped it on a piece of clear plastic which I could then position and press onto the snow for a mirror image.

Supplies:

Stamps: Berry red, snow white (Penny Black), Splendor (PB), Letter Background (PB)
Inks:  (1st card) Pretty in Pink, Certainly Celery, Bashful Blue, Summer Sun, Pumpkin Pie, Rose Red, Marina Mist, Early Espresso
(2nd card)

Scene from my window

The Less is More challenge this week is a sketch challenge. It just happens to be a sketch of a layout I use fairly often so I was once again keen to play along. We have had ice, snow, rain, snow, freezing rain, snow…etc this week which, while treacherous for walking around, is very pretty to look at. When I got up yesterday the sun was not quite up but there was a line of yellow on the horizon and the rest of the world was snow laden and bluey grey.

This card is my attempt to recreate the scene.  I must say the scene was way more beautiful but it was fun to have a go. I masked the sides first and then stamped a row of trees in the background, the trees from Lovely as a Tree in the middle ground and the tree from Branch Out in the foreground.  I embossed the black trees and then drew the snow on the branches with a versamarker before embossing a second time. I added the colour by sponging and masking.

Thank you for all your lovely comments about the Berry Branch set of cards I made. I know there were several questions about how I made the winter card. I will try and do a tutorial soon or failing that at least give you some instructions – stay tuned!

Snow laden tree

Crafty Creations Challenge is aiming to warm things up with a heat embossing challenge. I chose to emboss a very chilly scene. We have discovered since living in Canada that the sunny days which look so beautiful in winter are the coldest days despite the sun!

The large tree is the only part of the card heat embossed. I stamped the tree once in versamark then restamped ever-so-slightly lower in black before embossing in clear. The result is snow laden branches as seen in the close up below.

Thanks for dropping by today.

Supplies:

Stamps: Lovely as a Tree, All Year Cheer, small tree stamp from Embassy Arts
Inks:  Versamark, Basic Black, Marina MistBashful Blue
Cardstock:   MFP White

Watercolour leaves

There is plenty of snow outside now but I have slipped back into a fall colour scheme to try out this technique. I painted the word in masking fluid with a small paintbrush on watercolour paper. I then used two leaves from With Gratitude, a few colours and a water spritzer to dampen both the stamp and the paper. I sponged a bit of brown and green before peeling off the masking fluid.

This is a second card for the Just One Word challenge at Less is More.

Supplies:

Stamps: With Gratitude (SU)
Inks: Summer sun, Certainly Celery, Wild Wasabi, Close to Cocoa, Old Olive
Cardstock: MFP Watercolor card
Also: Windsor & Newton Masking fluid
