Patterned PoppiesPosted: August 4, 2014 Filed under: Bashful, CAS, Field of Dreams, Indian Wheel, Wishes | Tags: Penny Black creative dies, Penny Black stamps, Ranger Distress stains 17 Comments
It seems to be nothing but poppies on the blog at present. I can assure you that changes tomorrow as something quite unseasonal will appear!
Today I have a card inspired by one of the techniques in the Stretch Your Stamps 2 online card class. I have created watercolour patterned paper for die cutting before but I don’t think I have die-cut any embossed designs. I embossed the background stamp, Indian Wheel, watercoloured with distress stains then cut out several poppies with the “Field of Dreams” die. I also cut the sentiment from the patterned panel but it was a bit much so I decided to a cut a plain orange sentiment.
When I was photographing the top card and getting ready to post it I saw the pretty patterned sentiment and another die cut flower and decided a second card was possible. I had cut the daisy first from the patterned panel using the “Bashful” die but decided there was not enough patterned showing so switched to the poppies. It’s great when one design turns into two. The layout below is an adaption of the current Case Study Challenge #202 layout, one big flower and a sentiment strip stretching right across the card.
Stamps: Indian Wheel (Penny Black)
Inks: Vintage Photo, Peeled Paint, Mustard Seed, Spiced Marmalade, Barn Door, Crushed Olive, Bundled Sage distress stains (Ranger)
Creative Dies: Field of Dreams, Wishes, Bashful (PB)
Cardstock: Fabriano 100% cotton hot pressed watercolour paper, Fall Festival mix & match paper (Penny Black), Neenah Solar White 110lb card stock.
Die cut bloomsPosted: January 2, 2014 Filed under: Bashful, CAS, Dies, Enjoy | Tags: Penny Black creative dies, Penny Black stamps, Tsukineko Memento inks 15 Comments
I have a card to share today made using a Penny Black creative die which co-ordinates with a stamp from the transparent set Enjoy. The stamp and die are not the same size but the image is very similar. My colour scheme was almost the same for the panel and the die cuts. I sponged the top third of the panel in memento summer sky, the bottom third in olive grove and pistachio, then added dandelion in the middle. I inked the flower stamp with olive grove and cantaloupe memento markers and stamped on the background panel. I sponged the flowers with the same olive grove and dandelion then added canteloupe over parts of the petals.
I have been busy on some projects I will be sharing later. Several people have asked me specific questions about the watercolouring I have been doing lately. i plan to work on a water colour tutorial next I do so I will answer as many of the questions as possible in my tutorial. Stay tuned…
Stamps: Gratitude, Enjoy (PB)
Inks: Memento Summer Sky, Cantaloupe, Dandelion, Olive Grove, Pistachio (Tsukineko)
Cardstock: PB Mix & Match Olive Grove
Design Memory Craft CollaborationPosted: August 20, 2013 Filed under: Bashful, Dies, Dots, Floral Applique, Gelatos, Mixed Media, Polka Dot Sprig, Summer Fun, Tagged 10 Comments
This week Penny Black has teamed up with Faber Castell to create some multimedia projects. You can see projects on the Penny Black blog and the Design Memory Craft blog along with chances to win product prizes.
I decided to follow a seasonal theme featuring the Mini Mixed Media Journal from Design Memory Craft Faber Castell.
I began by creating the spring memory board below:
The first layer of this scene is the background sponging in blue, yellow and green inks. I then added a little texture to the grass with a pistachio gelato. The second layer is sponged flowers created by sponging through a die cut mask made with the Bashful die. Over them I stamped a row of Polka Dot Sprig flowers which I inked with guava, melon and tangerine gelatos then spritzed with water. The next layer includes sponging through a mask die cut with the Dots die and some text stamping using the transparent set Love Chapter. I die cut four flowers with the Bashful die and coloured them by blending guava, melon, tangerine gelatos with my fingers. On a piece of watercolour paper I applied the same gelato colours, blended them with water then added the love chapter script over the top before die-cutting the butterflies using the Tagged die set. The “spring” title is hand drawn.
Stamps: Polka dot sprig, Love Chapter (PB)
Creative Dies: Bashful die, Tagged Dies, Dots (PB)
Gelatos: guava, melon, tangerine, pistachio (Faber Castell)
Mini Mixed Media Journal (Faber Castell)
Inks: Memento Summer Sky, Cantaloupe, Olive Grove, Bamboo leaves & Versamark (Tsukineko)
My second board is the summer one below:
I know summer can be represented many ways but I decided on a bright blue sky, deep red flowers and some celebratory pennants. The flowers were embossed in clear powder, coloured over with a red cherry gelato and a few highlights added with markers. The sky is sponged ink with a little text and a few water droplets. I used the tagged die cut set to make pennants out of PB mix and match cardstock and designer paper, stamped a little message from the summer fun set then attached them with twine over my hand drawn title.
Stamps: Floral Applique, Letter background, Summer Fun(PB)
Creative Dies: Tagged Dies, Dots (PB)
Gelatos: Red Cherry (Faber Castell)
Mini Mixed Media Journal (Faber Castell)
Cardstock: Penny Black Mix & Match papers and Madison Designer paper
Inks: Memento Bahama Blue, Pear Tart & Versamark (Tsukineko)
Thanks for visiting; I’ll be back on Thursday with my winter and autumn mini boards.
Dies Days 2: Dots and BlossomsPosted: July 9, 2013 Filed under: Bashful, CAS, Dies, Dots, Leaves 8 Comments
More dies on show today. One of the dies I imagine I will use on all sorts of cards is the ‘dots’ die. I used it two ways on this card, first cutting a dotty mask out of a post-it note and then creating a background from a coloured piece of cardstock. I sponged through the post-it mask in four colours and then used some of the same colours to define the edges of the berry branch die cut and background panel.
Have a great day
Stamps: Friendship (PB)
Inks: Memento Angel Pink, Rosebud, Dandelion, Cantaloupe (Tsukineko)
Dies: Dots, Leaves
