Another Autumn Leaf
Posted: October 21, 2012 Filed under: CAS, Maple Leaf, Penny Black 18 CommentsThe challenge at Less is More this week is to follow an autumn theme. The autumn colours around here have been wonderful this year so I tried to replicate them in my card.
I sponged a selection of colours over an area the same size as my leaf stamp then inked the leaf with versamark and stamped it over the sponging. After embossing in clear I brayered the whole panel with dark brown. I like the fact that there are “embossing powder splatters” even though they weren’t intentional. I inked the sentiment with a few of the sponging colours to continue the theme.
Thanks for dropping by.

Colour inspiration
Posted: October 19, 2012 Filed under: CAS, Wishing You 8 CommentsThe Penny Black designers are taking Colour inspiration from Pinterest again today. If you check out the blog you will see some beautiful colour palettes with the projects they inspired.
I chose a colour palette that I am enjoying whenever I go outdoors these days. I punched a leaf out of a post it note then sponged Memento inks to create a little row of leaves. I spent the afternoon walking a trail with my son and a couple of friends and enjoyed plenty of fall colours and leaves as well as some local bird life.

OLW 110 Squares
Posted: October 17, 2012 Filed under: CAS, Maidenhairs, OLW 11 CommentsToday’s One Layer Wednesday challenge is to incorporate squares into your card. You could use a square stamp, mask a square or create patterns with squares. It is up to you as long as squares feature somehow.
I decided to challenge myself to not sponge my squares: I thought I should think outside the box a little more than that. I have a little square acrylic block so I inked that up with two shades of green spritzed it with water then stamped it on my card. To add the maidenhair fern I used a punched mask which was exactly the same size as the acrylic block.
Can’t wait to see your creations!
OLW110 Rules
1. A one-layer card is defined as a single layer of card stock folded in half. No other layers allowed.
2. Make a one-layer card which incorporates squares
3. Post your cards online and link to them using the InLinkz button at the end of this post. If you link to your blog, be sure to link to the specific post, not just your blog’s main page.
4. BE SQUARE!

Northern Lights
Posted: October 12, 2012 Filed under: CAS, Penny Black, Twinkling 14 CommentsPenny Black has entered the world of Pinterest as have so many of us. To celebrate the PB designers have gathered inspiration from the Penny Black board Winter Wonderland and created a bunch of projects. I chose this little decorated tree as my starting point.

I stamped the tree in black, embossed in clear and coloured a random selection of circles with Sharpie fineliners. After that I decided that the tree needed a background sky which started as a little subtle sponging along the horizon but ended as the Northern lights! I have lived in Canada for twelve years now but I still haven’t seen the northern lights. One day…
I am planning to mass produce this one but with different colour schemes. When I say mass produce what I imagine will happen is that I will get to four or five and stop because I’ll be ready to move on!
Thanks for visiting today, please drop by the Penny Black blog and check out the wonderful variety of projects posted today.

Two sets of baubles
Posted: October 10, 2012 Filed under: CAS, Hanging Treasures, Penny Black 16 CommentsI have a couple more cards made with a bauble from the Hanging Treasures set. They have exactly the same layout but one is monochrome and the other a little fancier. On the card above I masked then stamped the pine boughs before adding the baubles in versamark so I could emboss them with silver embossing powder. I added sponging in green, yellow and red (the red was done with a little mask around the bauble so that I could limit the sponging to the bauble only) The Less is More challenge this week calls for a touch of silver so I will join in with this card.
The card below is simply red stamped baubles, sponged edges and strings ruled and drawn in red fineliner.
Don’t forget the Gratitude Campaign continues over at Simplicity.

Vintage Christmas
Posted: October 9, 2012 Filed under: Background Stamps, CAS, Hanging Treasures, Penny Black 16 CommentsMy stack of Christmas cards is growing and the latest I’ve added is this vintage style one. Brown is not a typical “Christmas colour” but I like the warm look of chocolate brown ink on ivory or cream cardstock. I created the patterned strip using the Diamond background stamp and sponged around the edges. A strip of designer paper would work just as well but sometimes it is fun to make your own. The bauble is stamped in Memento Rich Cocoa, then sponged in the centre with Memento Rhubarb stalk before being cut out. It is not obvious in the photo but I embossed the whole bauble in clear embossing powder which gives it a shiny glaze then popped it up on dimensional tape.
Supplies:
Stamps: Diamond Pattern, Hanging Treasures, A Wish for Peace (Penny Black)
Inks: Memento Rhubarb Stalk, Rich Cocoa, Versamark (Tsukineko)
Also: Clear E.P. Grosgrain ribbon
More Sponged Snowflakes
Posted: October 8, 2012 Filed under: All is Bright, CAS, Penny Black 14 CommentsAs I mentioned yesterday when stamping with the All is Bright set and the blue inks I got a little carried away and continued creating different layouts with the same stamps, inks and technique. The card above is two layer but it could easily have been one layer if I’d masked the panel.
I certainly haven’t exhausted the layout possibilities for this this type of card but as you can see it is easy to create a range of masked and sponged cards just by moving the panel around the card base and switching from portrait to landscape orientation.
Anyway, enough of these snowflakes; I’m off to photograph the fall colours. Have a great Thanksgiving Monday if you are in Canada.
Supplies:
Stamps: All is Bright, Noel, Flourish Christmas (PB)
Inks: Memento Summer Sky, Nautical Blue, Danube Blue, Versamark(Tsukineko)

One Stamp, Two Ways
Posted: October 7, 2012 Filed under: All is Bright, CAS, OLW, Penny Black 16 CommentsSusan’s challenge for One Layer Wednesday this week is to use the same stamp on two different cards in two different ways. I made the top card first and when I had finished realised I had used the emboss resist technique which included sponging so I couldn’t do that again! I do tend to sponge a lot don’t I? I am not sure that the word is really in the right place. If I made this card again I would make sure there was a gap between snowflakes at the bottom of the circle instead. I made the mask for the circle with Spellbinder circle dies I had forgotten I owned. After masking a circle on this card I made two more with different designs. You’ll see them another day.
I decided to go super simple and elegant for the second card. Even though I am very comfortable with tons of white space it does seem a little empty to me. I looked among my meager supply of bling but there were nothing the right size or colour so I left it as it is. The gorgeous flourishes on the words make me happy so I’ll live with the design being minimal.
After I had made these two I returned to the emboss resist technique I used in the first one and made three more cards to complete a set of five. I’ll post the others soon.
Supplies:
Stamps: All is Bright, Noel, Flourish Christmas (PB)
Inks: Memento Summer Sky, Nautical Blue, Danube Blue, Versamark(Tsukineko)

OLW 107 Masking
Posted: September 29, 2012 Filed under: A Flight of Thread, CAS, Lace Flower, Maidenhairs, Music Background, OLW 14 CommentsKaren is hosting the One Layer Wednesday challenge this week and it is right up my alley; we have to use masking. I punched a square out of a post-it note and masked a bunch of squares tumbling across my card. Each square is sponged in Gingerbread Versamagic Chalk ink and then an image is stamped in Potter’s Clay Memento ink. I had all my squares completed and my sentiment stamped once but I wasn’t happy with the sentiment. It was too pale so I stamped it again using the stamp positioner but I didn’t get it exactly on the previous impression. Aach, don’t you hate that? It happens to me too often. I wasn’t prepared to start again with my little squares so I just restamped those words about 7 or 8 more times which made them darker but also made the shadow impression less annoying and maybe looked like it was meant to be there. Sometimes it is possible to turn a little glitch around.
Supplies:
Stamps: A Flight of Thread, Music Background, Lace Flower, Diamond Pattern, Letter Background, Flower Flourish(PB)
Inks: Memento Potter’s clay, Gingerbread Versamagic Chalk ink(Tsukineko)
