Poppy Gems 2

Poppy Gems 2 Heather Telford

The Poppy Gems return today but in a more traditional colour scheme than last week’s card. I stamped with liquid watercolour paint on this panel, a technique not unlike what I often do with the distress stains. I used a paintbrush to apply the paint to the stamp then, after stamping, used water to blend the colour into the petals and leaves. In the centres and shadows on the flowers I layered colour to increase the intensity. The paints are Dr Ph Martin Hydrus watercolours which dry permanent. This feature was helpful when I decided to add a background weeks after completing  the flowers. There was no chance I would make the pinks and greens bleed into the sky when I added blue with a watercolour pencil and waterbrush.Poppy gems 2 detail Heather Telford

The little tag is a cut with the new die from Penny Black, ‘gift card pocket’ which comes with so much more than just the pocket die.

      Hi Treen,
Thanks for dropping by and sharing some news. Notebooks covered with watercolour sounds lovely. My hands were feeling pretty good because I was forced to rest a lot during February due to a concussion. Now that I am getting back into things my hands are hurting again 😦 Trying to find a balance is tricky!

A gorgeous card and these paints are such beautiful colours and the sky with the little patches of white for clouds is just perfect Heather. x

How pretty! I really like the way the sky looks! I just tried stamping with watercolor paint this week and I thought to myself, this is a lot like what Heather Telford does with her distress stains. So that is fun that you posted about this the same week! The result is really lovely!

I never thought of painting a stamp with watercolor, and of course now I can hardly wait. Does it try quickly and need a spritz of water before stamping, or is the paper wet when you stamp on it?

Lovely. I have to try the watercolor on stamp technique.

Heather, your poppies are beyond beautiful! I just love your skill with a paint brush. After spending years with acrylic painting, I have recently started water colour painting. I’m having fun, but I’ve got a long ways to go.I so very much enjoy seeing your beautiful artwork.

I do love your style – beautiful! I wish you would do a video on how you do this. Or how about an online class – I would definitely pay for one!!

Heather, I love this card so much ! I am definitely trying this and getting this stamp! So lovely! I have PH Martins but hardly use them! Now, I’m breaking them out today! Thanks for the inspiration!

So pretty! I’m not sure any of my varied watercolour media dry as permanently as your Ph Martin ones do; what a helpful property! The partly cloudy sky is just right.

  14. It’s amazing the different look you get when you change the colours … so warm and autumny with your first one … so summery and fresh with this one. Love that background too — like a soft dreamy cloudy day. Thanks too for kindly commenting on my card inspired by yours.
