OLW 155 Silhouettes

birds on a wire

I’m not too late to add a card to Karen’s One Layer Wednesday challenge. I actually have two, neither of which turned out as I imagined but both meet the criteria.  I masked both cards with post-it notes leaving a one inch panel each time where I embossed the birds and sponged the sky.

On the card above I sponged over a torn mask repositioning and using different colours each time. On the card below I sponged over a straight edge then repositioned and sponged again several times to represent the sun’s rays.

One night I was sitting watching one of my son’s soccer games and there was quite a noise coming from nearby the field. When I looked to see what it was I saw hundreds of birds perched on electricity wires. It was an astounding sight.

Birds at night

Birds on a wire

This card is inspired by a photograph taken by Luz Adriana Villa A and shared on flickr. I saw it on Pinterest.

The sky took a while to build up as I sponged from the outside in, with three blues. I used a little light blue at the beginning, the darkest blue at the end but the majority of the sponging was done with Memento Danube Blue. I positioned the moon mask first and stamped the birds before I did any sponging so that I could vary the depth of colour around the image. After I removed the moon mask I tore little strips out of the sticky part of a post-it note to create a very thin cloud like shape.

Pieces of Sky

I managed to create cards for two challenges this afternoon: the OLW challenge Cheryl set us to use some form of transportation and the Less is More challenge to feature fur or feathers.  Let me tell you I was not overflowing with ideas for either challenge.  But then I noticed the little airplane stamp in the set I used last week with the fish stamp. Perfect for transportation.

One of Chrissie’s cards for the Less is More challenge reminded me of my birds on a wire stamp, as yet  uninked. Perfect for feathers.

Have a wonderful week.
