OLW 155 Silhouettes
Posted: September 2, 2013 Filed under: Birds on wire, CAS, OLW | Tags: CAS, Penny Black stamps, Tsukineko Memento inks 23 CommentsI’m not too late to add a card to Karen’s One Layer Wednesday challenge. I actually have two, neither of which turned out as I imagined but both meet the criteria. I masked both cards with post-it notes leaving a one inch panel each time where I embossed the birds and sponged the sky.
On the card above I sponged over a torn mask repositioning and using different colours each time. On the card below I sponged over a straight edge then repositioned and sponged again several times to represent the sun’s rays.
One night I was sitting watching one of my son’s soccer games and there was quite a noise coming from nearby the field. When I looked to see what it was I saw hundreds of birds perched on electricity wires. It was an astounding sight.
Supplies
Stamps: Birds on a wire, Summer Fun (PB)
Inks: Memento Summer Sky, Dandelion, Cantaloupe, Angel Pink & Versafine Onxy Black(Tsukineko)
Gorgeous cards Heather, the colours are amazing, Cathy x
I would love to see a video on these techniques. Both are breath-taking.
Lovely cards! I’ve seen whole trees black with roosting crows here in Ottawa. Quite a site., too. 😉
Great inspiration from seeing your birds on the wires. These are both stunning cards. You are definitely the queen of sponging! Fab job on the sunrays. TFS
Fantastic sponged backgrounds. I, too, would love to see a video of you creating this sort of background!

Beautiful cards, particularly love the first one, background is amazing.
I love both the cards, and refer to your work and Karen’s in my attempt to do sponging or sponging-type techiniques.
Both are beautiful…my favorite being the second one. Soooooo pretty!

magnifiques cartes !
Just love the way you do your cards and these are so perfect—great cards.–
Simply gorgeous x2 love them both..Denise (UK) x
Heather – love them both. On the first I thought, how lovely and soft and tranquil, then I saw the second and thought, sunrise, sunshine, light and cheer!
Great card! Like the inking and what a good way to use the birds on a wire stamp. I have two varieties of that stamp and sometimes get “stumped” on ways to use it on my cards. TFS 🙂
Fabulous cards, Heather! I love the dusky sky on the first one – reminds me of the huge flocks of birds we would see roosting on the telegraph wires in Nimbin NSW.
Very striking cards. Love your work and these are no exception! Thank you again for sharing.
Beautiful!
Wow, Heather, amazing as usual. Thanks for the inspiration to get off the computer and go create something as lovely as your cards. LOL. Have a beautiful day.
Before I open your email, I take a bandage and tie it under my chin and over my head. I’m just so fed up seeing your beautiful creations and letting my jaw drop….it’s going to come off one of these days! Don’t you ever make something dull? Both of these are stunning! :O)
Wow, wow, wow!!!
You seem to find infinite ways to sponge a beautiful and perfectly executed background, Heather. These are both stunning.
Hi Heather,
I just wanted to let you know that I love all of the beautiful cards that you create! You do such beautiful work!
I was also wondering if you could help me find two stamps that I am looking for in the Penny Black collection. In the #10-222 “Starry Night” sticker collection, there is a pinecone on one sticker and two rabbits on another sticker. Do you know the name of the stamp/stamp sets these come from? Are they retired? I have been looking for them but cannot find them; however, I feel confident that there are stamps like this because I found stamps that coincide with all of the other stickers in the set.
Thanks,
Joanne Enders
Amazingly beautiful artful creations! Love both of them!
I love both of your cards, but the second card is just out of this world!
