Stamping the stories: Lord of the Rings

I don’t understand it but none of my children seem to have inherited my love for ‘The Lord of the Rings’ trilogy and ‘The Hobbit’. I think they all read the latter but I am not sure that any of them finished all three LOTR. I have read them several times and thoroughly enjoyed them so when challenged with a fantasy and imagination theme the delightful forest of Lothlórien came to mind. I pulled out some tree stamps, some green inks and gold thread to create a representation of the magical forest realm of the elves in middle earth.
I used some sponging for the golden light of the sky, painting and stamping for the trees and grass and a little gold die cut popped up on gold thread as an embellishment. I stamped some of the trees wet into wet to create some misty atmosphere but added some more defined stamping once the paper dried. I think the little bit of script helps give the middle earth look. The speckled look is from a fine splatter of masking fluid applied before I started and removed once all the paint and ink were dry.
Have you read any JRR Tolkien? Are you a fan? What about the movies? Years ago my husband and I were watching ‘The Fellowship of the Ring”; we did not know one of our girls was still awake in next room. All she could hear was music then battle sounds, then talk, then battle sounds over and over. She finally asked us to turn it down; it was too scary to listen to. Poor thing. The movies are a whole lot of walk, talk, walk, fight, fight, fight, walk, talk, walk, fight, fight…

I never got to visit New Zealand when I lived in Australia but all the photos I have seen showed how beautiful it was and the perfect setting for LOTR!
not read the books but seen all but the last Hobbit film .the men in my household are mega LOTR fans – often watch all together ! Love this card and totally impressed by your version of the theme – happy Festive season

LOVE the books since I first read them back in the late 60’s – I’ve read the set (including the Hobbit) more than a dozen times over the years and still get tears in my eyes when Gandalf dies … what can I say?
I understand; I think it is time I read them again. It’s been a while.
When someone inquires about my favorite book I always say LOTR although I have read them only once. Would like to reread them but “too many books, too little time”…

oh Heather!!! I ADORE this card! it really is so dreamy and magic with lovliness. it screams fantasy!! I never read the books either, but I did watch the lord of the rings movies with my husband. i’m hoping that you will do some scenes from the Narnia series. That would be so much fun. there are so many things I love about this card. the wonderful sunlight coming down, the gold thread is magical, and the lovely touches of script in the glen are really wonderful! I can remember back when I saw your first card, it was a number of greens (by memento) and you made a collage card. I was drop dead in love with that card. it must make you so happy to create these masterpieces. thank you so so much. hugs, treen

This is a really magical card Heather and the lovely golden yellow sky and lovely green of the trees is perfect, and then the gold thread with that pretty leaf on top is an inspired idea as a finishing touch. I have read The Hobbit and two and three quarters of the LOTR, for some reason I didn’t quite make it to the end but the books are great! x
I’m with you………..I loved the first Lord of the Rings in the theater. No one else seemed to enjoy it so I bought the DVD’s for the next two so I could see the entire story. I haven’t seen the Hobbit though and may have to get the DVD. Love your card! You always create such wonderful scenes!
As a big LOTR fan (read all the books several times, seen all the films, ditto), I love your beautiful card! I guessed Lothlorien before I read your description. You’ve really captured the magical, ethereal atmosphere perfectly. I’d love to see your interpretations of Rivendell, or the Misty Mountains, or Edoras…….
I LOVE the Hobbit, and The Fellowship of the Ring. The last two thirds of the trilogy I was less enamoured with, but still enjoyed it. I think I like the quest more than the battles. All that being said 😉 I do love your card and how evocative it is.

Oh, Heather, I am way behind in commenting and may never catch up. But I just had to visit and leave a comment about this gorgeous card! I love it in every way, and it truly does remind me of LOTR! Wow, those movies are so amazing, and we just had to get the DVD’s for them too with the extras. The story behind it all is so mesmerizing, and this does remind me of Lothlórien. Oh the beauty and story that Tolkien told and that Jackson was able to capture in New Zealand. You’ve captured just one scene and delighted many with this card! I love it!
