OLW 38 Let’s get sketchy
Posted: January 31, 2011 Filed under: Branch Out, CAS, Stamped Landscapes 11 CommentsI guess they’re called challenges for a reason! This week’s One Layer Wednesday challenge was to use a design sketch. I tried several pretty flower themed cards before I settled back into the comfort of my sponged winter scenes. I will post one of the flower cards later this week. After cropping, matting and layering it was no longer anywhere near the brief for this challenge.
Several times lately I have noticed that an overcast day can look quite pretty particularly when the trees are still laden with snow. The colour scheme tends to be very monochromatic though. I tried to recreate that here with the sun weakly shining through the cloud. It is not a particularly “pretty” card, but I thought it might be appropriate to send, with encouraging words inside, to someone going through a difficult “season”.
To see a much prettier card using this technique check out the beautiful one by Sarah at Criminal Grace
Supplies:
Stamps: Branch Out, Season of Friendship
Inks: Basic black, Going Gray
Cardstock: Flourishes classic white
Also: White e.p.

LOVE IT! I love bare trees, I love snow scenes (as long as I am looking at them from inside where it’s nice and warm). I totally know what you are saying about how overcast days can be very pretty.
Awesome job on the challenge and thanks for playing along with OLW38!
Wonderful – just love it!! I think bare trees are great. This card has lots of atmosphere!
What a stunning card! It’s very dramatic, and it’s beautiful. Not every day can be sunny and bright, but you’ve shown us even a grey day can be lovely. I like this a lot.
I LOVE this! I so want to be able to achieve this look! Guess I need to practice more! LOL!
Beautiful! Lovely!
This is such a dramatic, atmospheric card — beautiful!
I LOVE your cards! I attempted to copy you on my blog – http://rainbowkreations.blogspot.com
Thanks for inspiring!
BEAUTIFUL sponged card.
Hugs and smiles
I missed this post the first time through, but I stumbled upon it again and wanted to tell you how much I like your shading. Thanks for saying my card was pretty, although I think yours is fabulous too. I can’t get my one-color backgrounds to look that real.
OMG his card is absolutely stunning. I just love it. I haven’t a clue as to how to do this, but I’m sure going to try to figure it out.
I pinned your card so I could remember the beautiful shading in the snow. I think this is a very pretty winter card.
