Penny Black Snow Dust

It is not quite as snowy as this card just yet, but it won’t be long.  When I bought the Penny Black wreath stamp, I also bought this PB stamp called Snow Dust.  I did my masking with post-it notes as I usually do, both to frame the scene and to create the snowy hills.  I stamped the trees in versmark with a base of black and then embossed in clear before sponging in the sky and the hills.  Once all the sponging was done I realised that my tree bases were too black compared to the white branches so I used a super fine black marker to draw a line under several branches so that they appeared to be snow laden not made out of snow.

I noticed that the technique lovers challenge at Splitcoast this week is to use sponging, so I will be participating with at least this card, but probably more.

Supplies:

Stamps: Snow Dust(Penny Black),
Inks: Versamark, Bashful Blue, Pretty in Pink, Brocade Blue, Going Gray
Cardstock: Flourishes classic white
Also: Clear e.p.

Last night I sat down and wrote in most of my Christmas cards, discovering in the process that I needed a few more.   The inspiration for this one was a picture I saw on a friend’s blog yesterday.  This kind of scene  can be seen around here quite often at sunset or sunrise.

To make it I tore a piece of card to place across the bottom to mask my snowy area.  I positioned it  at the bottom before stamping the trees in versamark.  I embossed them with black and then positioned the masking strip a little higher before sponging my sky, first in Pretty in Pink, then Almost Amethyst,  Going Gray and Bashful Blue.  I sponged a little Amethyst behind the trees and stamped some background trees in Going Grey.  To give the foreground snow a bit of definition I tore tiny strips out of a piece of paper and sponged through the holes.

Supplies:

Stamps:  Lovely as a Tree, Wondrous Gift
Inks: Almost Amethyst, Pretty in Pink, Going Gray, Bashful Blue, Versamark
Cardstock: Whisper White, Almost Amethyst, Basic Black
Also: black e.p.

How Silently

After I made the Snow Laden Tree a week or so ago I wanted to make a similar card, but one that I could make more quickly and demonstrate easily.  This is what I came up with.  I have used some of the same techniques but there is definitely less sponging and less embossing steps.  I stamped the snowflakes first in versamark and embossed in clear e.p.  I then sponged with bashful blue and brocade blue, taking care to build up the sponging toward the right hand side.  Once I was happy with the sponging I stamped the tree in navy and a few snowflakes in brocade blue.  Lastly I stamped the sentiment and embossed it in white.

Supplies:

Stamps: Season of Friendship, Wondrous Gift
Inks: Brocade Blue, Versamark, Bashful Blue
Cardstock:  Brocade Blue, Night of Navy , Whisper White
Also: Clear and white embossing powders, sponges

Sing ‘n’ Stamp with Becky

For the last few weeks the Stamp Simply Challenges have been focusing on Sharon’s Challenge design team.  The current challenge feature’s Becky beautiful work.  I spent quite a while browsing through Becky’s archives, collecting ideas.  Becky is a singer and stamper, hence the title.  Part of the challenge was to include something music related; I tried to include the lyric from this set, but it didn’t work out.

To make this card I stamped the tree and stars in versamark and embossed with gold embossing powder.  I then drew lines for the tinsel using Sparkles diamond glue from Personal Stamp Exchange and sprinkled some fairly fine coloured glitter on the glue.  As the glitter included bright pink flecks I matted with Rose Red as well as brushed gold.  I would never have thought to make a black Christmas card but I quite like the black and gold combination.

Supplies:

Stamps: Wondrous Gift
Inks: Versamark
Cardstock: Basic Black, Brushed Gold, Rose Red
Also: Gold organza ribbon, Sparkle diamond glue, glitter

Tags and wrapping paper

img_3925tag3.jpg

At the November stampers’ club we made tags and matching wrapping paper. The burgandy and cream above was my favourite and was definitely the easier of the two so that’s the one I will be reproducing to wrap my gifts this year. I bought the roll of paper from IKEA as it is $5 for 40 metres. It isn’t pure white but I can live with that. All I did for the tag and wrap above was use the So Swirly jumbo roller and burgandy cartridge to first roll the corner of my tag and then roll diagonally across my wrapping paper. I also used just the word Peace from the Perfect Presentation set, the ticket corner punch and some burgandy ribbon.

This tag and paper took a little more time as you need to stamp each tree and each star individually. To make the top of the tag I punched a 1¼” square out of white card which I had already scored, lining up the corners of the square with my scoring. Then I did the same with the 13/8″ punch and the red card. I folded them over the top of the tag and then hammered my way through six layers of cardstock with my hole punch. The little dots on the tree are the made using the snow from Snowflake Spot.

Supplies:

Stamps: Wondrous Gift, Perfect Presentation, Snowflake Spot, So Swirly roller
Inks: Handsome Hunter, Real Red, Gold
Cardstock: Handsome Hunter, Real Red, Whisper White, Brushed Gold
Also: Red grosgrain ribbon, gold cord, square punches

Wondrous trees

It has been a while since I posted my first couple of cards using Wondrous Gift. I promised to post some more samples and finally have some to share. The lack of posts here has not been due to no card making but rather too much card making. On Saturday night I ran, with the help of my girls, a Christmas card making night for the ladies at our church. Each lady made five cards and a handful of tags. As there were twenty-two of us I did quite a bit of cutting last week.

The following card is one they made at the event. I stamped the tree in navy before sponging in Bashful Blue then adding the stars in Burgandy.

Supplies:

Stamps: Wondrous Gift
Inks: Night of Navy, Bashful Blue, Bravo Burgandy
Cardstock: Bashful Blue, Bravo Burgandy, Whisper White
Also: Burgandy grosgrain ribbon, sponge

The event was a success, if everyone’s happy chatter is an indicator. One or two ladies expressed their fear that it was going to be “stressful’ or “beyond them” but ended up finding it very relaxing. To relax the following day I sat down and made the following card for “fun”. The blue is not a true representation of Bashful Blue but there is navy sponging around the edges changing the colour a little. I embossed with silver and then sponged the tree with Bashful Blue and the surrounding area with Night of Navy, leaving the star unsponged so it would look like it was glowing.
