Harmony leaves
Posted: September 13, 2012 Filed under: Foliage Fancy, Penny Black 8 CommentsI am enjoying making Gratitude cards and had fun experimenting with patterns and colours for this one. I used the background stamp, Harmony, which I randomly inked in three colours and stamped on white cardstock. I then embossed the leaves in clear and sponged over the whole panel, in brown and orange. Combining leaves with a tapestry style pattern is a bit unusual but I think it works here.

A bright tomorrow
Posted: September 12, 2012 Filed under: A Bright Tomorrow, Penny Black 14 CommentsToday the Penny Black blog is featuring cards using the new transparent set “A Bright Tomorrow”. It is a set of very pretty snowflakes, Christmas balls and a little wreath. I used the emboss resist method to create my swirling snow scene. All the images were stamped and embossed in clear before I sponged over the whole panel with a mix of blue and lilac Memento inks. I cut the panel in three then popped it up on the card base.
If you are looking for a challenge to participate in pop over to Cheryl’s blog for this week’s One Layer Wednesday challenge.

Stamps: A Bright Tomorrow, Hello Winter (PB)

Moonlit branch
Posted: September 9, 2012 Filed under: CAS, Hoot of a Time, Penny Black 14 CommentsAlthough this stamp is from one of Penny Black’s new Halloween sets I thought the delicate branches were too pretty to dedicate only to spooky scenes. I avoided inking the three bats and created a moonlit branch instead. To achieve the moonlit edge on the branches I used the same technique I have mentioned before when creating snow laden trees and branches. I stamp the branch twice, once in versamark and then ever so slightly lower in black, then emboss it all in clear before sponging.
Thanks for dropping by. I hope you have a great week.

Simple Foliage
Posted: September 8, 2012 Filed under: CAS, Foliage Fancy, OLW, Penny Black 18 CommentsSusan is hosting the One Layer Wednesday challenge and has challenged us to join in her Gratitude Campaign for 2012. In her words:
The Gratitude Campaign is my annual attempt to save Thanksgiving from the commercial limbo between Halloween and Christmas. I resent that Thanksgiving only gets an end-cap at Target. Those of you who read my other blog know how important an attitude of gratitude is to me, and it’s just sad that Thanksgiving has become an excuse to over-eat rather than an opportunity to jump in a big pile of autumnal gratitude and roll around in it.
I wholeheartedly agree with her so have created two gratitude cards today. The challenge for me is not creating them; it’s mailing them. I’ll keep you posted on my success rate!
The Less is More challenge this week is to create a one layer card featuring Foliage so I combined the two challenges and created the card above.
I used Memento dewdrop inkpads to apply ink directly to the stamp, first a pale orange, then a darker one around the edges of the stamp. I then added text to the leaf stamp by inking the letter background stamp and pressing the two stamps together (often called the ‘kissing’ technique).
I liked the look of the blended leaf so I stamped several more then cropped one out to make a single popped up strip on the two layer card below.

Stamps: Foliage Fancy (Penny Black)
Inks: Memento Cantaloupe, Tangelo, Potter’s Clay (Tsukineko)

Penny Black weekend challenge
Posted: September 8, 2012 Filed under: Penny Black 1 CommentLes Petites
Posted: September 5, 2012 Filed under: A Wish for Peace, CAS, Penny Black, Stamped Landscapes 11 CommentsYesterday I featured the lovely new patterned paper from Penny Black; today I have a little card to share. My card is made using Les Petites the sweet little pre-folded cards with coloured envelopes which are available from Penny Black.
The cards are 12 x 8.6cm (4¾”x3 3/8″) and are perfect for a little note.
I opted for petite stamps to create my little snow scene. The tiny spotted tree and the spotted swirl are from the transparent set ” A Wish for Peace”. The tree is embossed in clear embossing powder and all the sponging and stamping is done with Memento Teal Zeal ink.

Madison Paper Pad
Posted: September 4, 2012 Filed under: CAS, Designer Paper, Penny Black 3 CommentsPenny Black has a new pad of designer paper with all sorts of designs perfect for fall, winter and more. I pulled out a red and white print to make a Christmas card and two leaf prints plus a check to create a fall wreath card. I used a recollections leaf punch to create the fall wreath. The red and white print reminds me of Scandinavian patterns. To create the square I cut four identical squares then used a corner rounder punch on two corners of each square.
Check out the Penny Black blog today to see more creativity with the Madison Paper Pad.

Stamps: Hello Winter, Foliage Fancy (PB)

Autumn Sky
Posted: September 1, 2012 Filed under: Penny Black, Stamped Landscapes, Winter Sky 17 CommentsUsing the stamp “Winter Sky” and an autumn palette I created a scene I’m not quite ready for yet. I’m in no hurry for summer to end but the card making world seems to be in fall-winter-Christmas mode!
To create this scene I masked the lower section so I could sponge a cloudy sky then removed the mask and sponged autumn tones on the lower section. I initially just sponged the three colours without masks but finished by moving a hill shaped mask around to create the hillside. I then added the stamp in brown, trimmed, matted and popped the panel up on dimensional tape.
I must apologize to all who have left questions in the comment section in the last few weeks; I haven’t forgotten you and will try to respond soon. Thank you for all the lovely encouragement you have left me lately; you are very kind.

Stamps: Winter Sky, Thinking of You (Penny Black)
Inks: Memento Cantaloupe, Peanut Brittle, Morocco, Summer Sky, Bahama Blue & Versafine Vintage Sepia (Tsukineko)

Winter Berries
Posted: August 21, 2012 Filed under: CAS, Penny Black, Stamped Landscapes, Winter Berries 36 CommentsThe Penny Black blog is posting Designer Spotlights all this week and today is my day. I thought this card summed up some of my favourite techniques and preferences. I often make one layer cards and love to use sponging and masking; this card is an example of all those things along with my favourite image to stamp, a tree. If you want to know a bit more about me there is a profile on the Penny Black blog.
To make this card I stamped the tree twice, first in versamark and then in both versamark and colour applied with markers. The coloured image was stamped a tiny bit lower than the first image and then I embossed it all in clear embossing powder. Next I positioned a mask to separate snow and sky and sponged the sky in Memento Bahama Blue. I used several hill masks to sponge snow drifts then stamped the three slim tree trunks for a shadow.
This post is up a bit late because I arrived back from PEI last night around midnight after 17 hours on the bus! Thank you to all of you who wished my daughter well in the National Track and Field Championships; she had a great time and came home with a gold and a silver medal as well as a personal best time in her hurdle race. When I have had time to catch my breath I will have some photos to share. I thought Prince Edward Island was beautiful and, although I didn’t fit in much sight seeing, I did go to the beach for a short while everyday and swam in the Atlantic Ocean.

OLW 101 Feeling Blue
Posted: August 15, 2012 Filed under: CAS, OLW, Penny Black, Stamped Landscapes, Winter Ledge 39 Comments
Blue has long been my favourite colour so I thought a One Layer Wednesday challenge with blue would be appropriate. It is a very simple challenge: Feature the colour blue on your one layer card. You can use other colours too but Blue must be the star of the show! To create my card I masked the bottom of the card with a post-it note and then stamped the Penny Black stamp “Winter Ledge” twice, one in versamark, then again slightly lower in black. Next I embossed with clear e.p. I positioned a hill mask and started sponging the sky; when I was happy with it I repositioned the hill mask and sponged again along the edge of the mask to create a snow drift.
I might not get to visit your submissions straight away as I am off to Prince Edward Island with my daughter for six days. She is competing in the Canadian Youth Track and Field Championships and I will be cheering her on and snapping pictures. I look forward to visiting your blogs when I return next week.
I have another card below which I made for the Penny Black blog today. It isn’t one layer but it features the same technique and stamp so I thought I’d post them both together.
Rules for OLW 101
1. A one-layer card is defined as a single layer of card stock folded in half. No other layers allowed!
2. Make a card using blue as your feature colour. Remember to keep embellishments to a minimum and NO ADDITIONAL LAYERS of card stock.
3. Post your card online and link it to the InLinkz button below. If you link to your blog, please link to the specific post, not your blog’s main page.
Supplies:
Stamps: Winter Ledge, Christmas Fashion, Winter Magic (PB)
Inks: Memento Summer Sky, Danube Blue, Lulu Lavender, Sweet Plum, Versafine Onyx Black, Versamark(Tsukineko)
