I embossed this pretty new stamp from Penny Black so I could do some pencil colouring while I was away in Toronto a few weeks ago. The photo below is a little washed out on the gold embossing but I included it so you could see how the shiny gold contrasts with the pencil colouring. I used watercolour pencils as tiny palettes which is my usual method. I hold the pencil in one hand and a water brush in the other to pick up colour from the pencil lead.
My watercolour pencils are Faber Castell’s Albrecht Dürer. I’ve had a set of 36 since art school and recently I bought a bunch of colours I didn’t have. The floral wreath is embossed in gold powder after stamping in versamark.
The only other detail I added was a shadow of grey around all the embossing. I used a zig cleancolour brush marker then blended it with some water. Enjoy your day.

So beautiful. I love the gold embossing, your pencil watercoloring, and the colors you chose.
What better material to use than WOW embossing powder because this card takes my breath away. I’d be hanging this on the wall if you sent it to me. I love love love every detail. The stamp is gorgeous and the delicate details of the way you embossed and colored it are what take it from rubber stamping to one of a kind fine art. What inspiration!
So pretty!!! 🙂
Oh, how perfectly lovely! I love the coloring!
Delightful!!!!
Gorgeous card Heather and I simply adore the very delicate water colouring and the grey shading in the background just lifts the pretty PB image from the page and I love the way you have picked that beautiful blue out and used it for the background mat. x
Oh, Heather…That is GORGEOUS!!! (Just added it to my Wish List!) ♥♥♥
Art School, should have known! Your cards are all so lovely this one is just perfect.
That is very kind, Donna. I did an art major at the Canberra School of Art as part of my Teaching degree at Canberra University. I taught Primary School which included a bit of art but now I am teaching art and card making to adults and loving it!
Lovely water coloring and the gray shadow is such a nice touch. I like to emboss when I watercolor too, Versamark ink is the BOMB!
Beautiful colouring! Amazing the depth that the grey can add, isn’t it?
Just beautiful!!! It’s gorgeous
This is beautifully coloured Heather. And such a pretty image. Thanks for the tip on using a waterbrush to pick up colour from the pencil tips. Need to give that a try! xx
