A new poppy to enjoyPosted: February 16, 2017 Filed under: Dynamic | Tags: Faber-Castell Albrecht Durer Watercolour pencils, Penny Black creative dies, Penny Black stamps, WOW embossing powders 16 Comments
If you are familiar with Penny Black stamps you will know there are a lot of poppies to choose from. The one on my card above is a lovely new outline stamp called ‘dynamic’. I chose to heat emboss it in clear powder then colour with watercolour pencils. I used only five colours, varying the intensity of the red by adding more in the shadowed areas.(I also added a little sparkle to the petals with wink of stella) I used two greens for the stem and leaves, a black in the centre and a grey around the image.
Once my colour was complete I let it dry then ironed the embossing out of the paper. To do this you place the panel face down on some printer paper and iron with no steam over the panel until the embossing has melted into the paper underneath. It still looks embossed but it is no longer raised or shiny. I ended up giving the panel a wide red frame and a die cut sentiment from the same cardstock as the frame. Don’t forget to check out all the new loveliness in the new Bliss release.

OH, this is so pretty!! I haven’t touched watercolor pencils in a while but this is inspirational! Maybe it’s time to get them out again….
I hadn’t done much with mine either so it was good to pull them out for a project that didn’t need too much colouring.
So beautiful. I love the new Penny Black stamps and I love poppies!
Really nice stamp, beautifully colored, especially love how you did the leaves. Love the airy quality overall. Thank you!
Thank you Liz, I thought the end product had a light airy feel too. It was only after I had finished the card I discovered the name of the stamp was ‘dynamic’ – which was not the effect I had achieved. Maybe next time I’ll use it with a bit more drama.
You have a lovely light touch. I work at that, too much, frequently.
Love this stamp and your card is so beautiful! xxx
Beautiful card Heather. I have no watercolor pencils so must purchase some to have a try at this. Thanks for the inspiration.😀x
Thanks Heather, you wouldn’t have to use pencils, any water soluble medium would do, watercolour paint or watersoluble markers if you have them.
Your painting is truly amazing, Heather! I’ll never tire of seeing it. Love the soft shadowing in the background too. This is so professionally done!
Heather this poppy is so very elegant looking! Great job!!!!
This is a fabulous poppy Heather and I love the coordinating sentiment and frame. I must give the ironing technique a try as it looks so pretty to have just the white lines with no dimension. x
Lovely! You’ve really captured the foliage colour.
Such a soft and pretty poppy, Heather! PB does poppies the best!
Oh Heather you are bad for me, what areally wonderful stamp!!! I love getting your post in my mail too.
Thanks for sharing your inspiration!
