A Splash of Lemon
Posted: July 27, 2010 Filed under: Tart and Tangy 1 CommentI almost gave up on the card above at the embossing stage because I didn’t seem to get total coverage of the lemon slices. I did keep going though just to see what would happen and I’m happy I did because the end result is very bright and cheery. I made one piece of decorated cardstock and then cut it to use for both cards. The one below uses this week’s sketch from Card Positioning Systems.
To make the lemon design I first stamped randomly with versamark and embossed with clear powder. I then inked my brayer with Summer Sun and rolled the entire sheet but making sure one corner received more ink than the others. I did a little sponging to make sure the coverage was complete and then stamped more lemon slices in summer sun. Lastly I flicked water droplets all over the sheet and let them displace the ink. It is not obvious but the image above is popped up on stampin’ dimensionals.
Both cards are 6½”x3 3/8″.
Supplies:
Stamps: Tart & Tangy, Polka Dots &Paisley, Short & Sweet
Inks: Summer Sun, Versmark
Cardstock: Whisper White, Flourishes Classic White, Yoyo Yellow

OLW12 Watercolor challenge
Posted: July 18, 2010 Filed under: Inspired by Nature, Watercolor Minis 10 CommentsI have been wanting to participate in Susan’s One Layer Wednesday challenge ever since she began them so I was very pleased to have a chance this week especially as the theme is watercolor. I love the effects of watercolor so I had fun playing around with a few ideas. The technique I ended up using was wet on wet. I sprayed the watercolor paper lightly, inked up the stamps with markers in the card above and just on a stamp pad in the card below, then lightly spritzed the stamps before stamping them on the damp paper. The paper in the card above was wetter than the paper below so the ink bled a lot more. In the card below I dried the paper before stamping the second butterfly stamp over the top of the colored images so I the black ink didn’t bleed at all. On the card above I stamped a second and third time without re-inking and achieved the paler, more watery images.

More Kraft
Posted: July 15, 2010 Filed under: CAS, Upsy Daisy, With Gratitude Leave a commentI mentioned the other day that the CAS-tastic challenge to use Kraft had inspired me to create a bunch of cards. I decided to make them all thank you cards and perhaps box them up in a set to use as a gift. This is the second one I made using white on Kraft again and the same layout. I stamped the daisy stamp twice to fill the space.
Supplies:
Stamps: Upsy Daisy, Thank you Kindly
Inks: Versamark, Basic Black
Cardstock: Confetti White, Basic Black, Kraft
Also: White e.p.
I was also inspired by the beautiful card Karen, from the Bald Dragonfly, made, I made a few changes but basically CASEd her lovely four squared design.
I added a little sponging in rust and matted the foursome in black before adding a little bow and the sentiment. I’m so glad I came across the Bald Dragonfly; Karen’s blog is full of inspiration and beauty.
Supplies:
Stamps: Simple Sayings 2, With Gratitude
Inks: Versamark, Basic Black, Really Rust
Cardstock: Confetti White, Basic Black, Kraft
Also: Black e.p., Black twine
Creating with Kraft
Posted: July 11, 2010 Filed under: CAS, Garden silhouettes 5 CommentsI had a chance to browse through the CAS favorites on Splicoast today and found loads of beautiful cards. I was inspired by Karen Dunbrook’s beautiful “white on Kraft” creation and ended up making a stack of Kraft cards, something new for me. Karen’s card was part of the CAS-tastic Krafty Kreations challenge so I will link mine over there also. I didn’t have any Kraft cardstock but found something similar in a promotional booklet from a paper company. I have a friend with a graphic design business who once gave me a stack of sample booklets from paper companies and they are full of interesting papers. I embossed in white and mounted it all on Confetti White which seems to work well with Kraft.
I’ll have some more to show tomorrow.
Supplies:
Stamps: Garden Silhouettes, Thank you Kindly
Inks: Versamark, Basic Black
Cardstock: Confetti White, Basic Black, Kraft

Shabby squares
Posted: July 10, 2010 Filed under: Best Yet, CAS 1 CommentI have set the sponges aside for now and returned to a favourite element for cards: a collection of squares. I have done this type of layout before, inspired by Susan at Simplicity. Last time I did it I only used three squares plus a sentiment and kept them in line with each other. I decided to intentionally have them out of line and a little shabby around the edges. The paper was a beautiful paint speckled piece sitting in the stash from long ago. I used Celery, Lovely Lilac and Pixie Pink on the sentiment.
Supplies:
Stamps: Best is Yet
Inks: Certainly Celery, Lovely Lilac and Pixie Pink
Cardstock: Confetti White
Also: 1 3/8″ Square punch
Watermarked flowers
Posted: July 9, 2010 Filed under: Inspired by Nature 2 CommentsI just had to keep playing with the masking, sponging and water-droplet combo. To create this image I placed my post it note on the right hand side of the card front and started sponging with eggplant, pumpkin and rose red. I then moved the post it note over to the right a little and sponged again before turning the post it note horizontal and creating some lines with it that way. After I was happy with the sponging I stamped the coneflowers and the sentiment in eggplant and started flicking water droplets here, there and everywhere. I actually flick a few on and wait a few minutes to see where and how much they have soaked in before flicking anymore.
Thanks for dropping by, hope you have a great weekend.

Watermarked
Posted: July 6, 2010 Filed under: Of the Earth Leave a commentThis card came together by accident. I had stamped a small square image and embossed it so I could sponge in some colour after the embossing. Once I had done that I decided to mask an area on the card base to make a frame; that is the blue square you see on the card. When I positioned the square image on the blue sponged area it did not look any good so I just started experimenting, adding sponging all over the card. I added some artichoke sponging and some ink splatters and it began to look like I could make something out of it. I added the flowers and then did some spattering with water which disperses the ink creating little watermarks. The watermarks are my favourite part of the card. I added a sentiment and ended up quite happy with the card which was nothing like what I had imagined. If you click on the image you can see the watermark effect more clearly.
Thanks for dropping by, I am enjoying having time to stamp and browse other people’s blogs again.

Sponged and speckled
Posted: July 5, 2010 Filed under: Extreme Elements 5 CommentsThis is yet another take on the masked and sponged background. I chose the colours of water and the splodge from Extreme Elements as my main focus. There are some faint stars in there as well. As I have ink refills for some of the colours I was using I dipped a small paint brush in the ink and flicked it randomly over the design. I then flicked some water and finally positioned the sentiment.
Supplies:
Stamps: All Year Cheer, Extreme Elements
Inks: Not quite Navy, Garden Green, Certainly Celery
Cardstock: Flourishes Classic white
Cuttlebug music thankyou
Posted: June 29, 2010 Filed under: Cuttlebug, Upsy Daisy 1 CommentAs I have mentioned before my daughters are violinists, so I am always on the lookout for nice musical stamps or images. I have had this embossing folder for a while but I think this is the first time I have used it. My 15 year old is moving to a new teacher after 10 years with our current teacher. We prepared sushi as a gift for her and gave her this card when we attended the final lesson.
The daisy image was completed using markers directly on the stamp. I stamped the “Many Thanks” stamp on the vellum overlay, which unfortunately makes my picture look really out of focus.
Supplies:
Stamps: Upsy Daisy, All Year Cheer
Inks: Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie, Only Orange
Cardstock: Old Olive, Vellum, Whisper White, Confetti White
Also: Artichoke eyelets, Allegro cuttlebug embossing folder
