Golden leaves

This week’s challenge at Less is More is to use something metallic.   I am reluctant to admit it but there are golden leaves falling in my back yard already.

I decided to use gold embossing powder and ink to add a metallic touch to my card. First I masked then stamped the leaf twice in gold ink.  Then I got distracted by something on the computer as you do. I don’t know how long I was away from the card but when I came back to it the gold ink had dried to really hold much embossing powder. I heated it anyway then brayered over the leaves with summer sun and old olive.  There wasn’t enough rich colour with just the green and yellow so I switched to sponging and added some pumpkin pie. To finish I removed the masks and stamped two more leaves and embossed them immediately.

I hope you weekend is delightful.

Supplies:

Stamps: With Gratitude (SU)
Inks: Encore gold, Old Olive, Summer Sun, Pumpkin Pie
Cardstock: Flourishes Classic Ivory
Also: Gold Glory e.p.

Wow, this card really pops! For not doing it exactly as you’d initially planned, I can’t think that it could have come out better any other way. I like the first leaves being a little muted, so that the embossed ones really jump out at you. The brayering and sponging colors are beautiful fall colors, just made for your golden leaves. You were so right to do this on ivory CS, too; white would have been too glaring for this subtly gorgeous fall card. Beautiful!

  2. Hey GF – Way to go with the medium of metallic! I am so in the box I never would of thought of ink — sheesh. Love this card ~

  3. Chrissie says:

Your ‘distraction’ resulted in a super effect Heather, the gentler touch of leaves within the masking against the bolder embossing of the others.
A beautiful card, I love those combined colours!
    Thanks so much

It doesn’t seem to matter, because this card turned out beautifully regardless. The brayered/sponged colours are the perfect setting for these (sigh) gold autumnal leaves.
