Less is More: Embossing
Posted: May 14, 2011 Filed under: CAS, Stamped Landscapes, Wilderness Vol.2 43 Comments
When I first began browsing the Darkroom Door site, I kept coming back to this stamp. Images of trees are a favorite of mine and this scene of a wooded path is the type of scene I try to create with tree stamps.
This week’s challenge at Less is More is to emboss; I chose to heat emboss the woodland scene in black, then add some colour by sponging. I didn’t know if the detail of so many fine interwoven branches would work without detail embossing powder but I am very pleased with the result. Before sponging I masked the edges of the image.
I am looking forward to trying other colour schemes and techniques with this beautiful stamp.
Supplies:
Stamps: Wilderness Vol.2 (Darkroom Door), Teeny Tiny Messages(SU)
Inks: Versamark, Apricot Appeal, Pumpkin Pie, Summer Sun
Cardstock: Flourishes Classic Ivory
Also: black e.p.

It is always interesting to note which are the cards which draw widespread appreciation from so many of your regular viewers. This another of those occasions. Though I am not a card maker and frequently do not understand many of the procedures outlined in your notes, invariably I find myself agreeing with your commentators using words like “stunning”, fantastic”, “wow”, “wonderful image”. So I find myself wondering what it is that so resonates with viewers and prompts such appreciative comments.
As I look at this card and ponder these questions I note that, like you, I especially enjoy images of trees and woodland scenes. So I enjoy seeking to create photographic images that either by colour, or shape, or composition reflect the natural beauty that is to be seen in the bushland about us here. Occasionally, too, your card, prompts a memory of a particular scene or occasion that has special memory. This is one such card.
Whilst visiting with you on the coast of Nova Scotia, A10 as she then was, woke me early one morning to see the wonderful colours of the approaching dawn. A winding path led me from the cottage to the beach. The trees in my image we still clad with leaves, yet through them the colours of the dawn spoke of the beginning of another wonderful day.
I think the cards which spark the most appreciation are the ones which touch our life experiences at some point.
Thank you for another beautiful one.
