Limited supplies
Posted: November 6, 2010 Filed under: CAS, Designer Paper 1 CommentI know there are limited supplies challenges around the place but this card isn’t for one of them. I have a friend at church who got into stamping through me and wanted some ideas for Christmas cards. She brought her supplies to me and I said I would come up with a few ideas. She had cream and real red card along with a old pack of Cerise dp, a favourite of mine. Her plan is to stamp some Christmas cards with the two girls she cares for each day after school. I came up with some designs which are not too difficult. The challenge for me was sticking to the supplies she had in her bag. I couldn’t do it; I had to dip into my stuff now and again for a punch or sentiment. The card above was inspired by this CAS beauty, which was in turn inspired by this one!
After I had designed these two plus a few more in red and cream I worked on a few in greens. As I mentioned last time I posted we are without a camera. Mine is taking only purple blurry pictures and my daughter’s, which is working again, is in Berlin with my husband on a business trip. It has been years since he traveled with work so we could not let him go without a camera.
Supplies:
Stamps: Sleigh Bells Ring
Inks: Real Red
Cardstock: Real Red, Very Vanilla, Cerise d.p.
OLW 26 Black, white & red
Posted: October 31, 2010 Filed under: CAS, Patterned Pines 5 CommentsThe OLW challenge this week is hosted by Jennifer Styles and asks us to make a black, white and red card. I don’t think I have ever made a black Christmas card; it’s not really a traditional Christmas colour, but at least the snow is white. The black textured cardstock was just sitting there on the table and I do love textured card so I thought, why not? I guess what I have here are snow covered trees in the dead of night, lit by some unknown source of light!
The trees were stamped in versamark and embossed in white on textured cardstock so the trees have a little of a linen look to them. I added my red in the form of little rhinestones. Unfortunately our family is without a working camera at present so my card is scanned this time.
Supplies:
Stamps: Patterned Pines, All Year Cheer
Inks: Versamark
Cardstock: Basic Black textured cardstock
Also: white e.p., red rhinestones
Double sponged snowflakes
Posted: October 23, 2010 Filed under: Snowflakes 1 CommentHere is the second attempt at a double sponged card. The method is exactly the same as the previous leaf card but the colours do not contrast as well with this one. I did use several blues to do my first application of sponging but it isn’t obvious.
Enjoy your weekend; it is cold but gorgeous here it Ottawa!
Supplies:
Stamps: Snowflakes
Inks: Versamark, Night of Navy, Brocade Blue, Bashful Blue, Almost Amethyst
Cardstock: Whisper White, Night of Navy, Brocade Blue
Also: Clear e.p.
Double sponged leaves
Posted: October 18, 2010 Filed under: With Gratitude 4 CommentsI didn’t intend to do any more leaf cards, I really have done a lot lately and as I only have one leaf set, the same images keep appearing! But then an emboss resist idea popped into my head and I had to try it. I randomly sponged some white card with summer sun, pumpkin pie, real rust and a tiny corner of celery. Then I randomly stamped the leaf in versamark and embossed in clear. To cover the whole panel adequately I brayered and sponged in chocolate chip.
Now I am off to try the same thing with blues and snowflakes.
Supplies:
Stamps: With Gratitude
Inks: Versamark, Summer Sun, Pumpkin Pie, Real Rust, Certainly Celery, Chocolate Chip
Cardstock: Whisper White, Pumpkin Pie, Chocolate Chip
Also: Clear e.p., brayer
OLW 24 Back to Base-ics
Posted: October 17, 2010 Filed under: CAS, Snowflakes 4 CommentsJennifer Styles has stepped in to help Susan from Simplicity with her One Layer Wednesday challenges. This time we had to make a holiday card with a coloured base, but not white, cream, red or green. I chose Pacific Point but the colour in the photo is not quite true to life.
My card is as simple as they come. Stamped in versamark, embossed in clear. None of my Christmas sentiments were quite the right size and script so the greeting will be inside only.
Thanks Jennifer for lending a hand and providing the inspiration.
Supplies:
Stamps: Snowflakes
Inks: Versamark
Cardstock: Pacific Point

Falling leaves
Posted: October 16, 2010 Filed under: CAS, With Gratitude 3 CommentsWe are in the midst of falling leaves at our place. The back yard contains several very large trees and the falling leaves continue for a couple of months. I decided to cut a leaf shaped mask for this card; I don’t often cut shaped masks; I’m a bit lazy, but this leaf is not too fiddly. I applied the ink randomly with markers directly onto the stamp and then stamped four leaves moving the mask to create some overlapping. I then sponged and added the sentiment before matting in chocolate chip.
Thanks for dropping by.
Supplies:
Stamps: Graceful Words, With Gratitude
Inks: Chocolate Chip, Tangerine Tango, More Mustard, Pumpkin Pie
Cardstock: Flourishes Classic Ivory, Chocolate Chip, Tangerine Tango
OLW 23 Heavy Metal
Posted: October 11, 2010 Filed under: CAS, Snowflakes 9 CommentsI used a tried and true layout for Susan’s One Layer Wednesday challenge this week. We had to use metal somewhere on the card so I opted for metallic embossing powder. I know snowflakes are not really silver but in my magical sky with northern lights I wanted silver snowflakes. Lately I have been using this layout with sponging but decided to use watercolour this time. A couple of post-it notes are not quite enough of a barrier for water and ink on watercolour paper so my edges are a little more “relaxed”; there are a few breakouts of ink here and there. I decided to stick with them as that is what watercolour tends to do. The watercolour paper dictated the size of the card so it is 3.5″x5″.
After masking with the post-it notes I embossed the snowflakes then wet the whole panel and applied colour with ink and markers, moving it around with aqua painters until I was happy with the design.
Even though I have lived in Canada for 10 years now I have yet to see the Northern lights; this design came straight out of my imagination.
Supplies:
Stamps: Snowflakes, Short and Sweet
Inks: Versamark, Night of Navy, Marina Mist, Not quite Navy
Cardstock: Fabriano Hot pressed watercolour paper
Also: Silver e.p. aqua painter
Autumn leaf CASE
Posted: October 9, 2010 Filed under: CAS, With Gratitude 2 CommentsEvery week Brigitte (AKA Biggan on Splitcoast) creates absolutely gorgeous and original cards. I was inspired by a this card and this card to create two more autumn leaf cards of my own.
To create the mustard coloured leaf I used versamark and tangerine tango then embossed in clear. I’m not sure why it looks so much like mustard rather than tangerine. I then used markers, ink and an aqua painter to create the watercolour fill. The leaf is cut out and popped up on two mattes. The card base was embossed using the SU Flourish textures plate.
I used same techniques to create this one but did not cut out the leaf; I popped up the embossed layer instead. The colours around Ottawa are absolutely beautiful this year providing plenty of inspiration. I hope you are enjoying autumn where you are, or spring of course if you are in the southern hemisphere.
Supplies:
Stamps: With Gratitude
Inks: Versmark, Tangerine Tango, Ruby Red, Riding Hood Red, Cherry Cobbler, Cranberry Crisp
Cardstock: Flourishes Classic Ivory, Riding Hood Red, More Mustard
Also: Gold Organza ribbon
Congratulations
Posted: October 3, 2010 Filed under: CAS, Garden silhouettes 5 CommentsMy inspiration for this card came from AngelNorth. I wanted to make a simple but elegant engagement card for a friend who recently became engaged. She is a lovely girl who used to go to our church. Her mother still does and is a dear friend of mine so I plied her with questions regarding wedding plans. Her daughter does not want a big production wedding, she found the recent wedding show she attended absolutely overwhelming! I decide a little bit of nature and a touch of gold and black might be the right approach on a card.
To create the gold rectangle I stamped the stamp pad directly on the card stock and the black image over the top. A couple of mattes and a sentiment and it was done. The One Stop Craft Challenge blog is celebrating its 100th challenge and the theme is “Congratulations” so I’m joining in.
Supplies:
Stamps: Garden Silhouettes, Hugs &Wishes
Inks: Encore Gold, Basic Black
Cardstock: Flourishes Classic Ivory, Brushed Gold, Basic Black
Rust tree
Posted: September 29, 2010 Filed under: CAS, Lovely as a Tree 3 CommentsThis is a card I made a while back, which has a more masculine look than many I make. It also uses a tree stamp I don’t often reach for.
The image panel was made by masking a rectangle then sponging in rust, cocoa and a touch of ruby red. The tree and sentiment are stamped in black and that is all there is to it. Unfortunately my photo doesn’t show that the rust cardstock is textured but in real life it adds a little something.
Supplies:
Stamps: Lovely as a Tree, Everday Flexible Phrases
Inks: Close to Cocoa, Real Rust, Ruby Red, Basic Black
Cardstock: Flourishes Classic Ivory, Real Rust
