Stationery gift basket

This basket was the reason things were a little quiet on the blog earlier this week.  A friend asked me if I would make a gift basket for a bridal shower and this is what I came up with.  I had two evenings to get it done and really needed to work with what I had on hand.   Other than the candles it is filled with stationery.  It contains five greeting cards (mainly thankyous, as brides usually have many people to thank), a notebook, bookmark, place cards, two candles and a calendar.  It was the first time I had done a calendar, so it was a little bit of trial and error working out how and  what I would decorate.  I ended up decorating the inside cover, so that when it is hung up the decorated page is showing.  I perforated the top edge of all the months so they can be torn off leaving the decorated page showing all year.

The candles are done with tissue paper and wax paper as explained in my tutorial here.  All the paper items are made using Brocade Background designer paper, River Rock, Confetti Cream or Vanilla cardstock.  I had some lace in my lace basket which co-ordinated perfectly so that is featured on a couple of cards as well as the notebook.

Thanks for dropping in.

Silver on silver

I’m not sure where I saw this first but I know someone designed a beautiful silver on silver wedding card a while ago, and I have kept it in mind to try some time.  After playing with the Snow Swirled tree and the flourish from Baroque motifs I decided they would be perfect for this colour( or lack of colour!) scheme.  It was a very quick card to make, the only real decision  was whether to stay entirely silver or add some red.  I think the red works because it is a Christmas card, but it is the silver on silver which I really like.  Thank you to whoever first gave me the idea.

Thank you for stopping by, there will be another Christmas card tomorrow.  A big thank you, also to those people who dropped in yesterday for the first time, while I was a cohost for Sharon’s Stamp Simply challenge.  I am having a wonderful time looking at all the different  takes on my “No Pictures” challenge and have discovered some inspiring blogs that I hadn’t visited before.

Supplies:

Stamps: Snow Swirled, Baroque Motifs
Inks: Versamark
Cardstock: Real red, Brushed Silver
Also: Red gingham ribbon, silver cord, silver e.p.

Baroque Christmas

As I played with the Snow Swirled set this weekend I noticed how well it co-ordinated with the flourish from Baroque motifs.  So I created a little snow storm!  This card actually took me quite a while because I couldn’t settle on the colour combination.  Perfect Plum and Pale Plum work together but neither Bravo Burgandy nor Eggplant Envy work as a darker colour with them.  I ended up using just a little Bravo Burgandy and a bit of Black in the darkest areas of sponging.

Perhaps next time I do one like this I should take pictures as I go.  First I stamped the tree and the snowflakes in versamark on separate pieces of Whisper White cardstock and embossed with clear e.p.  I cut a piece of paper into the shape of a gently rolling hill and laid it across the bottom to mask my snowy ground before sponging all the sky.  I sponged first in Pale Plum and then worked in Perfect plum to create the middle colour and the darkest colour at the top.  I used a Plum coloured Marvy Brush marker to draw along the swirls of the flourish and the tree and then wiped the excess off the embossing.  I sponged the tree in Pale Plum and stamped three tree tops in Pale Plum also.

Although it is hard to see in the photo the ribbon is tied in a bow and the two tails are twirled and then held under the matte with sticky strip.  The matte is made from Bravo Burgandy but I coloured the edge with the same Marvy marker to make it a darker burgandy.  I popped the tree up on Stampin’ dimensionals. The finished size of the card is 4 1/8″ by 7 1/8″ a non-standard size for which I have no envelope, but as I don’t want to crush the ribbon twirls anyway, I think I will keep this one for friends close by.

Supplies:

Stamps: Snow Swirled, Home for Christmas, Baroque Motifs
Inks: Versamark, Pale Plum, Perfect Plum, Bravo Burgandy, Basic Black
Cardstock: Pale Plum, Whisper White, Bravo Burgandy
Also: Wine organza ribbon, clear e.p. Stampin’ dimensionals, Marvy brush marker no.64

Shadows

Here are the other two cards that A12 made recently. I think both turned out beautifully.  She did an expert job on the shadowing of the sentiment in the card above and created a nice faded motif on the card below.

Supplies:

Stamps:Garden Silhouettes, All Year Cheer, Baroque Motifs, Graceful Words
Inks: Not quite Navy,Taken with Teal, Gold, Summer Sun
Cardstock: Not quite Navy, Taken with Teal, Summer Sun, Whisper White, Natural White, Brushed Gold

Pink Flourish

Pink Flourish

You can probably tell by now that I really like this new stamp! The design is stamped and heat embossed on vellum this time and laid over a piece of pink Berry Bliss designer paper. I wanted the designer paper to provide a soft background for the stamp, the effect is subtle but you can see the floral design a little better on the card.

I didn’t have any white brads to attach the vellum so I pressed some silver ones into the versamark and then dipped them into my white embossing powder before heating them. It worked just fine, but I would add that the brad gets very hot when you are heating it, so hold it with tweezers! The faux stitching is from the Cherished Memories rub-ons, I still haven’t used my sewing machine on any of my cards, but I will try it some time. Thanks for dropping in.

Supplies:

Stamps: Baroque Motifs
Inks: Versamark
Cardstock: Whisper White, Pretty in Pink, Berry Bliss designer paper
Also: White embossing powder, Cherished Memories Rub-ons, silver brads embossed with white e.p.

Baroque birthday

Sunday’s featured stamper on Splitcoast was Michelle. I browsed through her lovely gallery and was inspired by her card here. I did not copy her layout exactly but the similarities are there as you can see. I did try adding some ribbon, but it wasn’t quite right. This was a very simple card, which I will probably reproduce when I need something quick for myself or for a workshop.

Supplies:

Stamps: Baroque Motifs, Hugs & Wishes
Inks: Bashful Blue, Pumpkin Pie
Cardstock: Bashful Blue, Pumpkin Pie, Naturals White

Double Embossed

double embossed

After I had tried the flourish from Baroque Motifs( the flourish is the whole reason I chose the set) I decided to see what I could do with the other stamps. The square motif reminded me of one of the cuttlebug folders so I decided to try and combine the two. I embossed the image in gold and then ran it through the cuttlebug three times, centering the the images each time. You can see the raised areas on the gold but not the cream. I sponged the upper and lower edges of the designer paper with Always Artichoke.

Supplies:

Stamps: Baroque Motifs
Inks: Versamark, Always Artichoke
Cardstock: Always Artichoke, Brushed Gold, Very Vanilla, Le Jardin designer paper
Also: Fancy Corners embossing folder, Gold e.p.,

Black Flourish

The camera is found! I had time over the  weekend to try out my new set Baroque Motifs. Sharon’s Stamp Simply challenge this week called for black accents so I embossed in black. The first card I did had the flourish on a busy patterned panel which I wasn’t totally happy with. My second attempt features a simpler sponged effect which I prefer. For both cards I cut my small white rectangle first and laid it on top of the large white rectangle before stamping the flourish in versamark. That way I knew the tendrils of the flourish would line up after matting the small rectangle.
