OLW 27 Christmas Kindness

My order of heavy white card stock arrived this week so finally I can make some one layer cards on white again.  One layer cards really need something heavier than Whisper White from Stampin Up but I let my supply run down without realizing and was without for a couple of weeks.  I am stocked up again now and able to play along with Susan’s OLW challenge to make a holiday card which could be used by the inmates of the North Dakota State Penitentiary to send to their loved ones.  The cards must be one layer and have no sparkles and or metal.

I have pulled out my mask and sponge technique again using Christmas baubles from Flourishes, first with a traditional colour scheme, then with the non-traditional.  I masked with post-it notes, sponged in three colours, stamped the bauble stamp in the same colours then removed the masks and stamped the bauble in black.  I drew the cord with marker and finally added the sentiment.  In the card below the featured bauble is darker because I created a  circle mask and sponged extra colour in that circle  before stamping over the top in black.

I know we have used non-traditional Christmas colours on the OLW challenge before but I still like the reds and greens.  What do prefer?

Supplies:

Stamps: Short and Sweet, All that Glitters(Flourishes)Teeny Tiny Wishes
Inks: Basic BlackReal Red, Wild Wasabi, Not quite Navy, Turquoise, Brilliant Blue, Pink Passion
Cardstock: Flourishes classic white

These cards are so beautiful. You really are the queen of sponging. Try as I may, I can’t make it as blended and seamless as you do. These are just lovely.

  4. I like them both – and the bauble image is just lovely. I think my favourite is the blue!! But I tend to like non-traditional.

They’re both fabulous! I prefer the non-traditional colors. Your one layer cards just amaze me! I’m adding your site to my favorites file. Thanks for the wonderful inspiration!

Oh I love both of these cards. My past three days of sponging is not getting me success. There must be some trick, like the perfect combination of paper, ink and sponge. But I’m not giving up, because I’m determined. I want your Northern Lights on my wall, done by me.

  8. I like them both!!!! Your sponging is always so wonderful, Heather…fabulous job on this challenge! Thanks for playing along.

Both cards are gorgeous but I prefer the traditional colours :o)

I’ve got a couple of things I have to make for a baby shower this weekend and when I’m finished those, I’m going to give this technique a try … like Bahb, someday I want to be able to do your Northern Lights and put it on my wall too!!

You should give a step-by-step tutorial for the Northern Lights effect that you achieved ~ there are so many that would appreciate learning how you do it!

  10. Another FABULOUS design, Heather! These are gorgeous.
