Choosing a tree

img_3634card30.JPG

I had fun with this little truck from Loads of Love. Each time I started a card, I considered colours to make the truck, but red seemed to be the only option. Perhaps if I wasn’t making Christmas cards it would be different. When I finished this one, my daughter commented that it must be “choosing a tree in Australia as there is sand on the ground not snow.” I have chosen trees from Christmas Tree farms in both Australia and Canada and it is a very different experience, that’s for sure!

I stamped the truck on Real Red c.s. and cut it out before stamping the whole piece with the versamark and embossing with clear e.p. The wheels were stamped on white and coloured with watercolour pencils.

Last sunflower

Not the last sunflower ever, just the last for now, as I believe it will be Christmas cards, tags, etc from now until December! I have several events I need to be planning for so I hope to start designing soon. I made the sunflower tiles by punching them out, stamping the Versamark pad straight on the squares and then embossing in clear e.p. Next time I’ll try glassy glaze e.p. to see if that makes them even more like tiles.

Supplies:

Stamps: Serene Sunflowers, Fundamental Phrases
Inks: Ruby Red, Bravo Burgandy, Always Artichoke
Cardstock: Ruby Red, Bravo Burgandy, Always Artichoke, Very Vanilla
Also: Olive organdy ribbon, Clear e.p.

September Stampers’ Club

Tonight at Stampers’ club we used the Sunflowers that I have been enjoying playing around with lately. I tried several techniques for creating a watercolour effect with the sunflowers. One was spraying the watercolour paper first and then stamping on it. Alternatively I stamped the sunflowers and then sprayed the paper afterwards. You can also ink the stamps and then spray them before stamping them. Unfortunately I can’t remember which technique I used here!? I think it was spray the paper first stamp after, but you may as well try each technique yourself. I added the dots to the paper with a Stampin’ marker.

Supplies:

Stamps: Serene Sunflowers, With Gratitude
Inks: Ruby Red, Bravo Burgandy, Always Artichoke, Burgandy and Artichoke Stampin’ markers
Cardstock: Ruby Red, Bravo Burgandy, Always Artichoke, Naturals White, Watercolour paper
Also: Antique Brass brads

For the other card I started with half an 8½x11 piece of vanilla cardstock and randomly stamped leaves all over it in Basic Black ink. Then I coloured with watercolour pencils in a range of colours which would match the earth elements cardstock. I added some leaves in earth elements inks, stamping several times before re-inking to get the variety of shades. At this point I showed my samples but encouraged everyone to cut whatever size and shape they wanted out of the leaf sheet and matte it to make their own card. I had twill tape on hand to add and the THANKS greeting. There was a little bit of complaining about having to design their own cards, but as usual they did a beautiful job.

Supplies:

Stamps: Fundamental Phrases, With Gratitude
Inks: Basic Black, Close to Cocoa, More Mustard, Chocolate Chip
Cardstock: Chocolate Chip, Very Vanilla, Ruby Red, Summer Sun
Also: Twill Tape

This was another one from the party the other night. When I first saw this set in the catalogue a few years ago I was inspired by the samples they had stamped. To show off the set someone had created attractive lables for kitchen canisters. I ordered the set. I have never been really happy with my sunflower creations until last weekend when I spent some time playing with the set again.

Stamps: Serene Sunflowers
Inks: Summer Sun, Pumpkin Pie, Bravo Burgandy, Always Artichoke

Watering the grass

img_3426card10.jpg

Yet another green card using the Garden Silhouettes. First I embossed the grass with clear e.p. on watercolour paper and then stamped same stamp in several different colours . I sprayed it with a mist of water to blur the images and when that had dried stamped the same stamp a couple more times. A little sponging in green completed the soft effect .

Stamps: Garden Silhouettes, Fundamental Phrases
Inks: Garden green, Wild Wasabi, Not quite Navy, Versamark
Cardstock: Garden green, Wild Wasabi, Not quite Navy, Watercolour paper, Whisper white, Vellum
Also: Clear e.p.
