Snowy New Year
Posted: January 10, 2012 Filed under: Holiday Sampler, Lovely as a Tree 6 Comments
As my Christmas card count was very low this year I have made a few New Year cards for people I still want to send a greeting to. This one features Marina Mist, an SU colour I just purchased and really like. I masked the hill, embossed the trees and snowflakes in clear and then brayered the sky. I’ll definitely use this technique again; I like the crispness of one colour with white.
Have a great day.
Supplies:
Stamps: Lovely as a Tree, Teeny Tiny Messages, Holiday Sampler
Inks: Versamark, Marina Mist
Cardstock: MFP White
Also: Clear e.p.
OWL 41 It’s Christmas…
Posted: February 21, 2011 Filed under: All That Glitters, CAS, Holiday Sampler 9 CommentsSusan threw out a challenge this week to create a one layer Christmas card on white or cream using only green and red. I am certainly not in Christmas card mode, but it doesn’t hurt to start early. This one was finished before I realized I hadn’t checked if natural flecked cardstock was allowed in the challenge. Natural is indeed permitted so here is my masked and slightly sponged panel card. Before stamping and sponging I flicked masking fluid on the panel. Masking fluid is used by painters to mask areas they want to preserve as white while they are painting the rest of the painting. You paint (or flick) it on and when you’re finished you peel it off to reveal white spaces.
Not too much of a stretch from my usual but I did put the sentiment on top of the panel for a change. Thanks for dropping by.
Supplies:
Stamps: All that Glitters(Flourishes), Hugs and Wishes( SU)
Inks: Mellow Moss, Real Red, Always Artichoke (all SU)
Cardstock: SU Natural white cardstock
OLW 28 A Mitten Maze
Posted: November 13, 2010 Filed under: CAS, Holiday Sampler 13 CommentsSome of you may remember when Susan from Simplicity inspired us to try some Andy Warhol style cards. I did a couple with flowers and leaves. I decided to revisit that idea for this week’s OLW challenge from Jennifer. She has challenged us to use five different colours on a one layer card this week. I have only one mitten stamp so it is repeated using the five different colours.
Supplies:
Stamps: Holiday Sampler, Hugs & Wishes
Inks: Real Red, Brilliant Blue, So Saffron, Glorious Green, Lovely Lilac
Cardstock: Flourishes Classic White
Red and white Christmas
Posted: November 14, 2009 Filed under: Holiday Sampler 6 CommentsThis is a nice quick card using stamps that I usually pull out for tags. The set is an old SU set which has been used and used by my family and at Christmas workshops every year since I bought it. I stamped the three images, added a bow to the ornament and punched them out with a 1¼” square punch. I popped them up on stampin’ dimensionals then lined them up on the Merry Moments designer paper. It was tricky to get that sentiment positioned correctly so I pulled out the stamp-a-ma-jig.
Even though I did this a while ago I noticed it fits the CAS challenge on Splitcoast this week which is to use one colour with white. Well technically it doesn’t fit, because I used vanilla not white! Anyway there are some great cards in the CAS40 gallery this week that don’t bend the rules.
Supplies:
Stamps: Holiday Sampler, Fundamental Phrases
Inks: Real Red
Cardstock: Very Vanilla, Merry Moments Designer paper, Real Red
Also: Stampin’ Dimensionals

To make my easy tags I cut a strip of Old Olive and stuck on a piece of designer paper which was a little narrower so the olive showed at the top and bottom of each tag. I cut vanilla pieces all the same and then punched different corners on a few. All the stamping was done using the very useful little stamps from Holiday Sampler and the To/From out of Winter Post. I drew all my stitching lines on with a fineline pen. When I started these I didn’t even know if I would like them, I don’t usually reach for Old Olive, but I surprised myself and had a lot of fun creating a different design on each one.
Supplies:
Stamps: Holiday Sampler, Winter Post
Inks: Old Olive, Riding Hood Red, Chocolate Chip, Always Artichoke
Cardstock: Old Olive, Very Vanilla,Petals and Paisleys d.p.
Also: Hemp twine, slit punch, burgandy fineliner
