Bloom Away
Posted: August 16, 2009 Filed under: Bloom Away, CAS 12 CommentsMy parents arrived from Australia a week or so ago, with this stamp set. It is an SU set but I don’t imagine it will ever appear in my Canadian catalog because it features Australian native flowers. I was browsing some blogs one day and saw a card which featured a gum blossom, so followed up the card information to find the set in the Australian catalog. My dad located a demonstrator not far from their place and… now I have a new set.
The set includes a waratah, a gum blossom and a banksia, these are a couple of my first attempts with the gum and banksia. I know the gum blossom will be my favourite stamp from the set. I have like gum blossoms ever since my mum read Snugglepot and Cuddlepie to me when I was five or six. I even won a prize in Grade 1, when I dressed up as Ragged Blossom for a Book Week parade!
I stamped the full image twice for both cards, once in green, once in black. I coloured the black images using watercolour pencils, ink from the stamp pad lids and a blender pen. I then punched out a feature square from the coloured image, matted it and attached it to the green image with stampin’ dimensionals. In the gum blossom card above I masked the edge of the background image using a post-it note and then stamped the left of the stamp again to create a larger bunch of blossom.
Thank you for dropping in today and a special thanks for the encouraging comments people have been leaving for me. I have really enjoyed your kind words.

Way cool spotlighting, Heather! I love all that clean white space that allows these detailed images to shine.
LOVE what you have done with these Heather! Simple, effective and elegant. TFS
Both cards are great. I like the wispy petals of the Banksea flower. It is a shame the SU catalogue items aren’t available to everyone.
What beautiful cards, Heather! And how special that your parents brought this set with them! Have a great day!
Now, these are unusual and so very beautiful! How wonderful to see something so totally different. I love the simple beauty of both cards.
Love the way you did these–very fresh looking!
I absolutely love these stamps! Your cards are beautiful and I too have a special love of Aussie flowers from visits to Australia. Would it be possible to have the name of the Stampin Up rep that you purchased these stamps from? I have a friend in Australia who might be persuaded to purchase them for me. Thanks! Laura on Vancouver Island
Heather — beautifully done!
You’ve been cased! Heather your work is just beautiful. My post today was inspired by your work. Thank you!
Hi Heather,
I absolutely love the bloom away cards. I have been trying to get this set of stamps and unfortunately they can’t be purchased in the US. I even called the company. You’re so lucky to have this set of stamps.

Heather, i love the gum flowers and i bought the set as soon as i saw them in our catalogue in Queensland (my daughter is a SU manager – joined when Kelli brought SU to Brisbane and i remember the excitement of that first night when the girls here saw SU for the first time). I had looked at the stamps and because they are so intense, couldn’t imagine that they would look as beautiful as your clear images. I love the way you have presented them. Have you tried the red waratah yet?
Hi from Q’ld again Heather. I used your idea of the gum flowers through the window to do a card for my friends to do with my bloom away set today. It is so lovely. I took my watercolor paper,SU pumpkin patch ink pad (multicolor) and aqua pen on holiday and found a flowering gum growin right beside the camp spot. It was so relaxing. Love your latest lovely as a tree cards too.
