Christmas card event
Posted: November 18, 2008 Filed under: Home for Christmas, Uncategorized 1 CommentI haven’t had anything new to post over the last few days as my time was taken up getting ready for a Christmas card making evening at my church. This is the second year I have organized the event, ably assisted by my girls and a friend on the night. Everyone made four cards including the one above that my daughter A12 designed and demonstrated. The others are already on the blog here, here and here.
I also set up a tag making table where people could go whenever they had a few minutes between cards.
Supplies:
Stamps: Home for Christmas
Inks: Really Rust
Cardstock: Really Rust, Whisper White, Vintage Violet
Also: Gold cord
A little flatter
Posted: October 26, 2008 Filed under: Uncategorized 2 CommentsSharon’s stamp simply challenge this week was to make a flat card. That doesn’t mean no layers but rather that the card would sit very flat in the envelope, with no lumps and bumps. Even before I saw the challenge I was trying to design a simple card for a workshop on Friday night. I wanted to show off Snow Swirled but didn’t want to emboss or sponge this time. This is what I came up with. I did incorporate the ribbon, but as there are no bows or knots it still meets the “flat” requirements. The snowflakes in the background are stamped multiple times without reinking to give the different tones of artichoke.
Supplies:
Stamps: Snow Swirled
Inks: Always Artichoke, Real Red
Cardstock: Always Artichoke, Whisper White
Also: Red gingham ribbon
How Silently
Posted: October 19, 2008 Filed under: Season of Friendship, Uncategorized, Wondrous Gift 2 CommentsAfter I made the Snow Laden Tree a week or so ago I wanted to make a similar card, but one that I could make more quickly and demonstrate easily. This is what I came up with. I have used some of the same techniques but there is definitely less sponging and less embossing steps. I stamped the snowflakes first in versamark and embossed in clear e.p. I then sponged with bashful blue and brocade blue, taking care to build up the sponging toward the right hand side. Once I was happy with the sponging I stamped the tree in navy and a few snowflakes in brocade blue. Lastly I stamped the sentiment and embossed it in white.
Supplies:
Stamps: Season of Friendship, Wondrous Gift
Inks: Brocade Blue, Versamark, Bashful Blue
Cardstock: Brocade Blue, Night of Navy , Whisper White
Also: Clear and white embossing powders, sponges
Season of Friendship
Posted: October 2, 2008 Filed under: Season of Friendship, Uncategorized 1 CommentThe inspiration for this card was a card made by Sharyn Tormanen on page 64 of the August/September edition of Papercrafts magazine. Once again a simple but striking card caught my eye. The red flourishes were stamped with the gorgeous flourish from Baroque Motifs and the white flourishes are rub-ons from the retired Cherished Memories set.
When my older daughter saw this one it appealed to her because of its simple unclutterd style. Her motto in many things is “less is more” which is often a good guide when it comes to decoration.
Supplies:
Stamps: Baroque Motifs, Season of Friendship
Inks: Riding Hood Red
Cardstock: Riding Hood Red, Pirouette Pink, Bella Rose designer paper
Also: Cherished Memories rub-ons
Autumn Daisies
Posted: September 29, 2008 Filed under: Pocket Silhouettes, Uncategorized, Upsy Daisy 1 CommentI haven’t participated in Beate’s weekend sketch challenge for months so when I saw the sketch this weekend featuring three panels I decided it was time. I have been working on Christmas cards today but wanted to stamp these daisies once more at least before it’s all Christmas cards and gifts.
I cut my three pieces and tried to stamp the left, then centre then right side of the stamp so they would roughly line up. I could have used the stamp-a-ma-jig to be absolutely accurate but I didn’t!
Supplies:
Stamps: Pocket Silhouettes, Upsy Daisy
Inks: Artichoke, Pumpkin Pie, So Saffron
Cardstock: Whisper White, Artichoke, Pumpkin Pie, So Saffron
Also: Circle Punches
Late summer flowers
Posted: August 14, 2008 Filed under: Uncategorized Leave a commentWhen I was arranging all the elements on this card it was oriented the other way, landscape not portrait, and I was trying to decide whether the ribbon was needed or not. My older daughter suggested turning it around and making stems from the bits of ribbon. It was exactly the right thing to do. The flourishes became tendrils, something like the tendrils of a weed which is taking over in my garden at present.
To make the card I embossed the flourishes with black e.p before sponging in garden green, pumpkin pie and apricot appeal. It was then that I decided to cut the image into three panels. Then I embossed three flower images and punched them out with the 1 3/8’punch and sponged them. The flowers are raised on Stampin’ dimensionals.
Supplies:
Stamps: Baroque motifs
Inks: Garden Green, Pumpkin Pie, Apricot Appeal, Versamark
Cardstock: Whisper white, Basic black
Also: Black grosgrain ribbon, black e.p.
Blue Butterfly
Posted: August 13, 2008 Filed under: Uncategorized Leave a commentI am enjoying watching swimming finals and semi-finals as I post this card. It is amazing to think we were in Beijing just over a month ago! I chose some cooler colours for this card, colours which seem summery to me, and then left plenty of blank space on the vanilla cardstock. It is a very simple design and the only fiddly bit was cutting out the butterfly, which I attached with a glue dot.
Supplies:
Stamps: Garden Whimsy, Fundamental Phrases
Inks: Mellow Moss, Bashful Blue, Brocade Blue
Cardstock: Mellow Moss, Bashful Blue, Brocade Blue, Very Vanilla
Also: Moss gingham ribbon
