Colour blocking

In search of inspiration recently I came upon a bright artistic card from Vicki and decided to try something similar myself. I chose three colours and made sponged strips using post it note masks. I really like Vicki’s black line flowers and considered trying to draw my own but decided instead to use the In Full Bloom set. I then matted in black and used a coloured card base for a change. By adding a few dots to the sentiment I made it look like it belonged in the flower set.
Thanks for the inspiration Vicki.

Less is more challenge 3
Posted: February 23, 2011 Filed under: CAS, In Full Bloom 21 CommentsThe third challenge from Mandi and Chrissie at the Less is More challenge blog is to make a clean and simple card with a spring theme. We have been having a few spring-like days around here but I am not convinced that winter is finished with us.
I pulled out a stamp set that I rarely use and applied a technique I often use: masking. I masked a rectangle area and stamped the flower and leaf stamps several times always overlapping the mask edges. I then used my new Faber-Castell coloured pencils to colour. After removing the masks I drew double broken borders with a black fine tipped marker and added the sentiment. The card base is white but has taken on a bit of a pink tinge in the photo.
Supplies:
Stamps: In Full Bloom, Simple Sayings
Inks: Basic Black
Cardstock: Flourishes Classic White
Also: Prismacolor premier fine line marker, Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils
My birthday girl
Posted: July 13, 2009 Filed under: In Full Bloom 3 CommentsI know I promised another card by my daughter but time got away from me so instead I have the card I made for my daughter who turned thirteen today.
Her favourite colours are green and yellow, so I stamped the flowers with versamark and summer sun, then the stems in versamark and green galore before embossing in clear. The colouring is done with SU markers. I haven’t really used them like this before, I usually colour directly onto stamps with them. I was please to be able to get some darker definition just by colouring over with the same colour.
The bee is cut out and stuck down on the body only so the wings could flap. I added extra stem and dots with a marker and wrote my own Happy Birthday greeting.
Thanks for dropping in today, I’d better go there are birthday details to attend to!
Supplies:
Stamps: In Full Bloom
Inks: Versamark, Summer Sun, Green Galore
Cardstock: Whisper White, Confetti White, Gable Green

Remakes

Once in a while a remake of a movie is better than the first one, but I usually prefer the original. As far as these cards are concerned, I definitely prefer the remakes. I went through a box of old cards the other day, sorting and tossing out what I didn’t like and wouldn’t use. I guess I could have photographed the originals but I just ripped bits and pieces off and started again. For both cards I just salvaged the flower panels which were stamped in Basic Black and coloured with watercolour pencils. I was inspired by the cards I saw on Simplicity by SusanRaihala.

The simple fonts in the one line greetings combined with the matted coloured flowers are a big improvement on my first efforts trust me.
Supplies:
Stamps: In Full Bloom, Simple Sayings

CAS Black, white, lilac

This week’s Clean and Simple challenge is to use Black, White and one Bold Bright. What I envisioned in my head was a black tree branch with green leaves. As you can see, that is not what happened. I stamped these three flower and stem combos using In Full Bloom and then added just a little lilac ink with a blender pen dipped in the lid. I fiddled around a bit with black hemp twine, which filled some space on the bottom right hand side, but it was not delicate enough so I took it off. That is why the sentiment is on the left, whereas I would normally put it on the right.
So glad you dropped in.
