Year round friendship
Posted: September 2, 2010 Filed under: Lovely as a Tree, Stamped Landscapes 20 CommentsThis is my card for Speedy the Cat’s Friend’s challenge#18 which is to make a “friendship” themed card. Susan Raihala’s One Layer Wednesday challenge is to make a tree card this week so this card is also perfect for that. Trees are easily my favourite image to stamp and my favourite stamps to buy, so thanks Susan for this weeks challenge.
I designed this card in my head while swimming laps, I often do this, it makes the time pass more quickly! Of course designing something in your head is no guarantee that it will work but I’m happy to say this one did. As you can see below I created a four season scene across the inside of the card. I masked off the area I was going to use and sponged the sky. I then roughly divided it in quarters, sponged in the three season colours and left winter white, just adding a few smudges of blue. I stamped the trees from Lovely as a Tree twice across the bottom as the card is 7 ¾” long. The colours on the trees are done with markers plus a little sponging with the end of a Q-tip. The final step was the hardest: punching the squares in the right place. I did a rough try on paper and then did a bunch of calculations to get it exact, which it isn’t , but I decided the error was not worth worrying about.
To finish it off I added the sentiment and balanced it out with the black twine. I had to scan rather than photograph as you can’t really get the effect of the scene through the punched squares if the card is sitting open.
Thanks for dropping by today.

What beautiful work with these trees throughout the seasons!! An exquisite design!!
Thanks you so much for sharing this beauty in the Friends of Speedy the Cat’s friendship card challenge!!
WOW! Super awesome card! Lot of work in this one! I know it must have been difficult, because I tried the whole masking thing when I did my card…and it was VERY difficult! (and I only had one tree! LOL)
really clever design!! I will try that. works brilliantly
Heather I have to save I TOTALLY love the way you are doing these trees – so much so I COMPLETELY CASED it – it’s been a long long time since I CASED exactly – LOVE the sponging!! Thanks for the inspiration and for playing with Speedy’s Friends!
Isn’t that clever? What an awesome card! TFS
I totally love this!! Awesome!!!
Thanks for joining us at Speedy’s Friends.
This is absolutely amazing! Thanks for joining…for the Speedy the Cat’s Friends challenge!
This is just to my taste and I love it!
beautiful..love this!!
This is such a clever card. I love it and will definately CASE it.
this is a CAS stunner….the ‘seasons’ really stand out on the white panel….bold in presence, yet crisp and clean in desing…..thanks for playing with Speedy’s Friends this week
I tried getting four boxes in a row straight WITHOUT anything under them. I tried MANY times. It seems like it should be simple to put a punch in the right place, but it’s almost impossible so I KNOW I won’t have to write and ask you for permission to copy this fabulous idea.
You sure aced THAT Challenge!
Thanks for sharing.
AMAZING card! And sooooo much work!
There are a few things you can do to make punching those squares easier, too. First, punch squares from post-it notes and arrange them on the card using a ruler. Then punch the post-its out. Draw light pencil lines in the squares on the inside of the card so you know what will show when the card is closed, then design the interior scene. Let all the ink dry completely before erasing the pencil lines, too.
This card is still a lot of work…creating four perfect little scenes and the necessary masking is an amazing demonstration of detail. Thanks so much for sharing this beauty!
Gorgeous card, love it, a whole year in one. So much work, really worth it though:D xx
At first I thought you had masked the four scenes on the front of that card; I loved the surprise of the full landscape on the inside! What a great card!
A beautiful and stunning design, Heather.
(Do you ever lose track of how many laps you’ve done? I used to do laps and my mind would wander and then I would lose track! lol)
Oh, this is such a clever design .. love it with the season colours.
I’ve just discovered your blog today, but I know I’m gonna love it! Great card!
Brilliant idea for the 4 seasons, I love it! TFS
WOW is all I can say, I just found your blog and love everything you have done with sponging and trees!
